Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle 2018

Monbeg Worldwide fairly hammered by an impressive looking winner in Jetz there. 33/1 (BetVictor only currently) for the potato race is Jetz.

Made me consider having a little go on Cracking Smart, form has been bumped up following Monbeg Worldwides defeat! Jetz was taken to the cleaners by Cracking Smart earlier on in the year (13 lengths adrift).

I wouldn't be sure that Cracking Smart will make the journey over the Irish Sea...

The fantastically named Brahma Bull won over 2m6f today, now unbeaten in 4.... the new Long Dog? Been busy enough over summer, seems tough.

Has drifted in the market on at least 3 starts and still won... 33/1 quotes I can see.

Not had a bet myself, anyone else been interested? - ***I am not

Next Destination debut over hurdles tomorrow, up against a few likely types but hopeful of a good run

very impressive. I liked his performance in the fez bumper when he was very green. Could be a serious player come March.

I've backed Next Destination for the potato race, I liked what I saw

So did I straight after race. He Really surprised me I wasn't expecting that,
Not sure if he goes here or ballymore, id just shade the latter but time will tell

10s any race with hills race is very fair.
I made a rash decision with 25/1 A Bartlett and could only get 16s neptune. Should have gone any race at10s if I knew I could now back at hills in shop.

Will go with the any race market for him, however I do really fancy him for this race. The way he quickened in that ground was extremely smart.

How many points are you considering?

10s seems fair rather than good in my opinion at the moment.

Last season Mullins' novices kept beating each other which I'm slightly worried about this time, that recency bias will make me think ND is better than he actually was?

I won't be going mad, maybe 3-4pts, because if he turns up in the Ballymore then the likelihood is he'll have to beat Samcro and the rest, his best chance is the AB for me so I will also back him for this race in my multiples aswell as the singles on the any race market too. If I get the AB wrong at least I have him for the Ballymore via the any race bet.

I'll make a decision before he next runs. Just seems a little tight but then again, that could end up being such an important race this season.

Found this Mullins quote so tried to work out whether there is a pattern for Next Destination....

Mullins said on Sunday: "He won well at Naas and looks a stayer. I'm not sure where he'll run next but he could go to Navan for a Grade 2 two-and-a-half-mile novice on December 17."

so....Mullins has won that Navan novice hurdle with:

Mikael D'Haguenet- Won 5/2 Ballymore but then ran RSA and stayers hurdle next couple of years
Boston Bob - beaten fav 6/5 in Albert Bartlett
Pont Alexandre - Beaten fav 5/4 in Ballymore beaten by The New One
Briar Hill - Fell as 2/1 fav in Albert Bartlett
Bellshill - Beaten at 11/1 miles by Altior in the Supreme

Bit on an anomoly with Bellshill but he has said later the Supreme was a mistake.... but no real pattern.... other than they all started as fav!

I started this hoping to work out whether I think he'll run in this race or the Ballymore, haven't got definite answer but will have 2 pts at 10/1 any race.... the Ballymore is looking MUCH stronger at this stage and to be fair probably usually is a hotter race, so if I had to pick, I might sway this way...

What do you guys think

" i was very taken by that in that ground on his first run of the season. He jumped great and I can't believe how much he picked up after the last," commented Townend.

"They can often improve from one year to the other. There were a lot of reputations going into the race and he definitely hasn't done himself any harm.

"I'd imagine he could stay further but the pace he showed there I'd say there are a lot of options for him."

Before the race mullins also quoted "he jumps well, however he needs match practice"

Real difficult one to be honest. The breeding angle does not really help either as I'm not a huge fan of the sire and there are limited jumps progeny to go on. Mullins also runs his Novices over various distances early in their career, especially if they are middle or staying distance horses. Any race is the answer here I'd say.

Willie ran Penhill in three 2m races before finally stepping him up in trip and going on to win the AB last season, so I do feel, as you have said, there will be no definitive answer until the new year.

2m 3f on hurdles debut, on soft/heavy tells me he's a stayer and the way he finished his race would suggest a fair stayer at that, but who knows for sure.

White Moon looked very good at exeter carrying a penalty, will make a smashing chaser in time.
