Certainly did. Are we agreed looks a AB type?
I wouldn't have him as a Bartlett horse myself.

Think if he was a Ballymore NJH would be starting him over 2m.
Fair enough....so if the horse hadn't made the mistake, going slow wouldn't have been a dopey ride?
Mccoy rarely did any of the above, neither does johnson.
Fehily does this and it infuriates me :highly_amused:
Just watched it again to make sure my thoughts were right and the mistake didn't help but he actually got the horse back on the bridle between the last two flights and was only a length down jumping the last but had not asked the horse for a proper effort. All the while Johnson had been riding a finish on the winner. after a minor mistake at the last he then took a while to get himself organised and by the time the horse knew what was being asked of him it was too late.
A dopey ride for sure in terms of winning today's race.
Not sure about anybody else, but when a horse comes off the bridle in the last four furlongs of a race, then that should be it, jockey rides a finish. I don't like to see them come back on bridle again and cruise as invariably they don't respond the second time, and it confuses them, as it does when a jockey decides to pop a fence or steady a horse over one.

Having said all that, it was a debut and an education so it was an ok ride, but I'd have preffered to have seen him ride a finish earlier and see how the horse responded, especially after the mistake got him on the back foot for a bit.
Think you're being a tad harsh. The horse didn't exactly hurdle fluently throughout, one mistake (probably cost him the race) the horse and jockey were actually lucky to stay in partnership..Obviously the jockey will need to get at the horse after a mistake like that, he lost lots of ground.
He actually rode the horse into the last fence where, again, he was untidy and not fluent. Absolutely no issues with that ride in my opinion- the horse was novicey + that's that.
So if Fehily had got at DG before the mistake, you'd have expected him to have won, and not thrown in any poor jumps (didn't hurdle perfect in the main) ?
Fehily has obviously taken the approach to go steady with the horse, and let him learn his job as he went. Rather than thrash him to bits.
I'm pretty sure Quevega was talking about Nico and not Fehily, my fault as I brought up Fehily just to muddy the waters :highly_amused:

I prefer a quiet style to the pushing and shoving.
There are certain jockeys including Fehily, Ruby, Barry and Paul Carberry in the day who often look like they are holding onto more than they have. The jockey who goes for persuader last usually rides best race imo.
Not harsh just detailed analysis. I do this to spot when a horse may be better than the bare result.
The horse and jockey (as a team) didn't hurdle fluently.
He Lost approx 4 lengths max after the mistake. And they'd only just stepped up the pace.
Jockey did well to stay on board, not lucky really.
Technically he rode the horse into the last as he was sat on it, but he did not ask for any extra effort from his horse.
The horse was novicey.
Yes I would have expected the horse to have won. (by the way, I backed the winner and had no money on DG)
No idea how the horse would have jumped had he been a bit more positive sooner, and nobody else does either.
I don't think anyone has suggested anything gets thrashed to bits, have they ?
A question for you.
Do you think Downtown Getaway was the best horse in the race ?
I Do.
I wouldn't have him as a Bartlett horse myself.
He did travel really well and I'd say Bartlett was more likely due to him running in this race as a start
and visually when really asked for an effort off a slow pace after the last hurdle, He didn't really quicken like I'd have wanted for a potential champion over the 2 and half mile trip.
But it's really difficult to be sure, to be sure.
I had Downtown Getaway come out of hiding for Henderson this week and tomorrow I’m hoping for a big run from Gallahers Cross who has finally made it to the track and looks like he’s going down the Potato route that I was hoping for.
Same for me Jackie. Starting off at 2m5 certainly suggests this race. Still 33/1 with b365 which I'm tempted to add before he runs
