2026 Ryanair Chase

Not if he jumps as far right handed as he did those last few fences...
Fair point, was a decent return to action, see where he ends up, might consider it too quick a turnaround to make Cheltenham.

…..Jonbon a general 4-1 (9/2 NRNB Hills Specials) IEP 8-1 (9-1 NRNB Hills Specials) after those wins.

Didn't see start of the race so it could just be a sign of tiredness that he was heading that way. Also worth remembering it was his first chase run outside novice company. Still did well to get back up and one to have fun with in the Spring races.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Jonbon skip Cheltenham and reappear at Aintree. Leave F2F as JP's Ryanair representative.

Agreed, but he’s never run twice after Xmas before Cheltenham though.
Particularly as he’s had to dig deep into his reserves both times…at the age of 10 it would be quite an ask , and I have to say quite out of character for his trainer.

I’d love to know what vibes JP is getting from Jimmy Mangan as I wonder whether this might be key in all of this (at least from JPs perspective). It could be surmised that if JM wasn’t really upbeat Jonbon would not have run today and would have been trained to the minute for the Ryanair.

I’m on the same wavelength but F2F instead of Spillanes.

If Jonbon was JP Ryanair horse I don’t think he runs today.

I've never really thought that JP considers splitting his horses - he's got plenty of coloured caps and willing jockeys to call upon

Only examples I can think of would be when it's JP horses with the same trainer, and even then, I don't think it's that relevant

If Jonbon and F2F both miss the Ryanair and Spillanes goes to Gold Cup as expected then he'd be left with Jagwar.

To an extent but F2F isn’t even entered so he had already decided to split them. The decision to supplement would be deciding to unsplit them and when considering that decision, recognising how studious and pragmatic the operation is, I believe they would factor in the well being of all their top horses. A bullish report from JM may lead them to believe they can win both races thus supporting their original view that the Ryanair is the right race for F2F.

In other words if ST in their minds becomes the new Inotheway they may be happy to stay put.

If it makes perfect sense to do it though, then I'm sure he does.

Maj - champion chase
Jonbon - ryanair
Fact to file - gold cup

Seems a fairly common sense way to place what are his three best chasers at this current time to give himself the fave or second fave in all three races most likely. They may have other ideas for whatever reason but that seems the most logical way. Unless inothewayurthinkin suddenly sparks back into life.

Henderson sounded on for Cheltenham post race but could change obviously.

I think it really is simple as his recovery .
If Jonbon is showing them he’s recovered ok and they are happy with him, he will run at Cheltenham.
If not, he won’t.

He wasn't against the idea of Jonbon Gold Cup in his post race interview. Could JB be the one who's supplemented?

Fair enough I hadn’t heard the interview so if Hendo is bullish about Cheltenham then I think hopes of GW ending up in the GC have just taken a nose dive.

I wouldn't go as far as bullish, not the bit I heard anyway. Was just saying something along the lines of he deserves a win at cheltenham.
