2026 Novice Hurdlers

…..Fire Warning 20-1 Sup in Hills ‘Road to Cheltenham’.

Henderson said: “Kevin Mooney rides him in all his work and he loves him. That was a good start. Kev is great and he has helped the horse along the way. He is an older horse as usually it is three-year-olds that come out of France, but this is a four-year-old. He had one run, and just got beaten. He has got a future in front of him, but when he jumps a fence he will be a better horse still.

“We weren’t planning on that (to make the running), but they weren’t going to go very quick so he just let him roll along. I think it was quite sensible he set his own pace. He just wants a good even gallop as probably hasn’t got six gears, but he might have a couple. He is a very nice and very straightforward horse. He looks like a chaser in the making. I think we will have a lot of fun with him.”

Following the race Fire Warning was left unchanged at 16/1 for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Festival by the sponsors. However Henderson insisted he was keen to see the four-year-old race again before considering a tilt at the Grade One prize.

He added: “I hope he will be a Cheltenham horse one day. He will stay further and he will certainly run again (before Cheltenham). Possibly he is more of an Aintree horse as the others have had a couple of runs, but I don’t know, however that is probably not a bad idea.

“We will see what Rich wants to do as he has got a lot of other horses. We’ve only got one soldier of his to go to war with and I’m sure he has quite a team in Ireland that will be invading.”

Thought I'd post my position on the supreme for a laugh.
Keep in mind I'd told myself this season that I would hold off in the novice hurdle division and let the form and runs guide me.
Which I've done to a point. Except for the supreme 🫣 - Only 8pts at play though so it's not too bad, I can do 20+ points in most of the handicaps by off time. So stake levels relatively low for ante on this type of race.
Also used betfair to decent effect to get free rolls on some (green) the ones on red I'm probably losing on but waiting on next runs or something else to change.
It's all about discipline. :ROFLMAO: 😞

….Sober Glory;
Hobbs said: “There has been no reason for the Sandown Park disappointment at all. He was fine afterwards. His blood tests were good and the physio couldn’t find anything wrong. It wasn’t a hot race today, but nevertheless he has done it as you hoped he would.

“It did take the wind out of my sails at Sandown Park. It was a big surprise as he has run miles below par for no reason at all, but I suppose they can all have an off day. You can ride him anywhere, but there was going to be nothing to take him on so it was easier for him just to be in front.”

Following the race Sober Glory was trimmed from 33/1 into 25/1 for the Sky Bet Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Festival in March by the sponsors and Paddy Power, however an appearance in the Listed Kennford Novices’ Hurdle at Exeter on February 8th beckons first.

Hobbs added: “Everything is possible at this stage. I suppose it is very likely he will run in a Listed novices’ hurdle at Exeter in February as that gives us the right sort of timing. If he went and won that well then you would be thinking about the spring festivals.

“We have some very novice hurdlers that will hopefully make nice chasers. I think we always felt that way (that he was top of the pecking order), but then Starzand and Bobby’s Nelson are two nice horses.”

….Bambino;

“She was enjoying herself, taking in the scenery in front but when I grabbed hold of her and she knew we were going racing, she’s done what I wanted her to do. She’s good fun," the winning rider told Racing TV.

“I think we bumped into an above-average mare at Naas and if Gordon hadn’t gone there with her we’d have won and been delighted. She’s improved for it but we just ran into one that was above-average and had a fitness advantage on her side that day.

“We were disappointed but happy enough with what she did. I kept her going today, she needed to learn to jump at speed and she’s learned that today too.”

I mean he ends with saying "we'll see what rich wants to do as im sure he has quite a team". As far as I know ricci has fuck all for novice hurdles, so he will probably go to cheltenham as long as he wins his next race.

If the exchanges are anything to go by aswell, Venusienne looks like shes a problem - only 4 quid @ 50s laid, but one to keep eye on

Didn't even make it in the later stable tours did she? Been a problem there a while I reckon

He was one I was happy to ignore.
Of all the ones that I've not backed it's Idaho Sun that would be a concern, so awaiting his next outing.
Idaho Sun my weakness too. Only loser in the book at the head of the market at present ... unless Bambino Fever goes this way. A little further down Hurricane Pat is looking at me ... but I think that performance was just a typical Gary Moore December Sandown performance. Might see what the WTAF prices are like Saturday as cover.

Fire Warning 9.5 seconds slower than Sober Glory but obviously much of that to do with the slow pace during the first half of the race.
the third race was also around 4m mark with an impressive winner. I wonder if sober glory has actually put up a good clock performance there. im looking back at other races and most 2m seem to be around that 4m mark on good to soft. would rather have sober glory than fire warning right now for supreme

despite pipes update yesterday windbeneath has 0 to lay and 80s to follow on bfx....thats not a good sign

Allo Allo ref from Black dog, made me laugh as well.
