2026 Novice Chasers

Being out of his comfort zone will make it more likely that Lulamba will miss fence or two, that was evident in the first mile of today’s race.
Any horse in a 2m chase can miss a fence or two especially novices.
Can happen to any of them.
All about which performs on the day.
At least with Lulamba he’s had three races now and that experience plus today should stand him in good stead for March.

Agree. Kopek will have to be exceptional to win off his prep

Re: Lulamba…Last years Juvenile crop were well below average & in comparison to the previous year he’s no Majborough that’s for sure. Even he struggled in a weak race with the vulnerabilities of a 5 year old catching him out.

He’s got an inflated rating based on the dearth of decent UK 2 milers to compare him too. Even in today’s open company, my god the standard is piss poor.

Kopek’s not a horse that takes a lot of racing to strip fit, the DRF last year was arguably his best performance on his second run, even if Willie has him 90% I think he’ll have too many gears for Lulamba.

Kopek fans…

Question….

What happened to this “unbeatable” horse that is Kopek, when he was dusted up at punch?

what makes you think he won’t do that again?

Reasons, from trainer, too fresh. He’s going to be fresh for the arkle given his had time out

at least Lulamba has been dusted up like that, he’s improved and he’s shown up. Both quite important attributes.

Punchestown is for pints not for punting @opatcho

That’s part of the curriculum in primary schools across Ireland.

I find it so funny how these kopek fans have written off that performance at punch, it never happened!!!, but will continue to mention Lulamba’s second place at the fez and how poor that race was

Pick and choose what fits

3/1, hope you’re loading up

I'm somewhat of the same opinion, maybe people are just expecting another Sir Gino and to me he feels priced for the Arkle like that's what he is. I'm not convinced though.

I'd much rather dutch the Willie Mullins pair at similar if not better odds. You're getting a mightily impressive Supreme winner and a mare that gave Sir Gino his hardest race. If Lulamba lined up against Gino I don't think he'd get that close.

Fair enough if you are on at bigger odds but 5/4 is super tight.

Time will tell how good last seasons novices and juveniles were, some take more time than others to mature to their full potential.
I would agree the uk 2m novice chasers are not a great bunch and the Irish in general are ahead, but Lulamba does stand out here and it’s possible he’s better than the Irish.
Until they actually run against each other we won’t know.

One thing I do know , Lulamba is no Sir Gino!!
Might still be good enough though.

Romeo Coolio was firmly put in his place in the Supreme. He’s won 3 grade 1’s already this season. Time has told.

Yep, he’s been well placed and versatile in distance to a degree
It’s going to take more than that to tell us how good they are in general.

Plus hurdles to fences? Early days
Your reincarnation of Pegasus only had 1 chase.
Not to say he ain’t Pegasus, but lots to prove yet as with all of them

Off of 1 chase?
I only have to watch them jump and travel over 2m to see which is the natural 2 miler , be it hurdles or fences.
My honest opinion of Sir Gino I’m a tad scared to say on here to be honest!!
I ain’t got enough to back me up, yet!!
I really hope I can get that over the next couple of years, but fear it’s going to be a case of….. we will never know 😞

Lulamba will be a staying chaser in time imo
can still win the Arkle though.
