2026 Mares Chase

If you want to be picky, the quote says two-mile-one and the Arkle is two miles.
She is not bred for 2 miles. While it's fine as an introduction, the endgame has always been the Gold Cup and the natural transition race is the Mares Chase.
She’s referring to the two beginners chases on at Navan next weekend.

Nothing that I have read

Last thing was Willie saying with JDG and Kargese, that one may go chasing and the other stay hurdling

Only thing since that comment (stable tours?) was bit of blue on oddschecker for Kargese Arkle

Would love to be a spy on those schooling grounds at Willies !😀
Thanks, me too!
I want to back something as the race has been good to me, but value is not great m, unless we know what’s on with JDG…..wait for an entry it is then 😂😂 as you say, lossie could ruin about 4different races for us all at this rate!

I went back to the original interview and realised that Lobos' quote was selective so I've deleted the first sentence. However, I absolutely stand by the remaining argument.

I’d tend to agree with you on her best trip going forward.

Only By Night was Cromwell's first runner for the winner's new owners Robcour and he said on Racing TV after the event: "I'm absolutely delighted, she was game in the finish. It's exciting to have a horse for Robcour and for her to win was great, it's a nice race to win.

"I thought it was a tight race on paper, I think we could have finished fourth and run a cracker. Thankfully we've come out on the right side.

"I'm not sure what she'll take in on the way (to Mares' Chase at Cheltenham Festival in March), I suppose the John and Chich Fowler Memorial Mares Chase in January is an option, I haven't looked a whole lot beyond here, but it's a nice start anyway."

Paddy Power and Betfair clipped Only By Night to 6/1 from 8/1 for the Paddy Power Mares' Chase.

It means absolutely nothing these early entries

Just have to take a look at the Morgiana and Hattons Grace entries to see that, dont get tied up on them
I know he block enters with the Irish races and I just ignore those, but I can't remember from memory whether he does similar with English races (as in entering horses in hurdle races in england who he knows are actually going chasing) but maybe he does. But it did make me wonder whether her being entered in the fighting fifth was a bit more significant than being in the morgiana.

Could well be nothing though. Anzadam has shown himself to be a bit fragile so they might just want to make sure they have something else in it in case he has another setback when they start working him a bit harder.

Kargese entered in the fighting fifth. Wonder if she’s staying over hurdles after all that.
He'll have plan Bs and Plan Cs but I'd be fairly sure this race isn't Plan A.
I'm always amazed by the Cheltenham entries, all Mullins novice chasers will get hurdle entries and vice versa, must waste a fortune in fees every year...

….Diva Luna into a best 16-1 after that win (Unibet go 33-1 Arkle).

Happy she won, I stupidly took the 33 WTAF when she was 33's with 365

….Pauling said something along the lines of ‘maybe taking on the boys’. Not seeing much in the way of Arkle prices.

Adrenaline got the better of him I think!

Last time she took on the boys she was 39 lengths behind Salvator Mundi.

In fairness, she wasn't right all last season.

He does say exactly the same in the stable tour in OJA,so he obviously thinks this is a route she may follow.

…..July Flower a best 10-1 (Hills) after that win.

Diva Luna

BP.....

We were delighted with her and she was all class,” said Pauling.

“She’ll go to Warwick for the Lady Godiva now and she really wasn’t fully fit at Bangor. She worked in Lambourn 10 days before and it was probably one of the worst pieces of work I have seen in Lambourn.

“At home she was then right and we rolled the dice to go to Bangor and she was good.

“She beat some nice horses and not in my wildest dreams did I expect her to win that without coming off the bridle.”

Pauling is also gearing up for Diva Luna taking on the boys after her trip to the midlands next month, wanting to make up for what he deemed a wasted campaign over hurdles last term.

He continued: “It’s been a while since we’ve seen her at that level and it was probably the Aintree bumper we last saw her hit that sort of form.

“It annoys me we were so wrong with her last year because that was her year where she could have shone. Realistically this year, once she’s gone to the Lady Godiva she’s going to have to take on the boys, probably in the Scilly Isles or something like that.

“She’s quick enough for two miles, but she’ll stay further.

“I personally think she needs to go up against the geldings before the Festival, so we know which route we’re going with her. The Warwick race will be the perfect next step.”

Brighterdaysahead is still “a few weeks off running”, which seems likely to rule out an appearance at Fairyhouse’s Winter Festival next weekend.

A minor setback stopped Gordon Elliott’s highly-regarded mare making her intended bow over fences at Navan earlier this month, but the Cullentra House handler said at the time he hoped to have her back for Fairyhouse and that the issue was “nothing serious.”

Speaking on Thursday, Elliott said: “We’re still a few weeks off running, all being well, but we missed the other week and you know when you miss a week at this time of year, it just holds you up for a few weeks.

“I’m not so sure when you’ll see her at the moment.

I wonder if Gordon will be tempted to keep her over hurdles? If her debut is delayed until after Xmas, she might be into the festival off just one run in what looks like a hot Mares chase and with two potential superstars in the novice chases.

I know Gordon has the favourite, but the Mares Hurdle is looking like a shocking race. I'm expecting Jade to be declared for her beginners chase at Cork today as it's 9 runners from 7 trainers and only Gordon and Willie have two entries (so does Henry by Tareze is declared for Fairyhouse today). If Lossiemouth does succeed in the 2 mile division, then nothing bar Wodhooh is sub 20/1. The market is certainly ripe for chancing something at a price.
