2026 Mares Chase

Off OR135

She now OR147

Dinoblue OR159
Dinoblue not ran to that this season? Panic Attack more improvement perhaps? She's improved 1 1/2 stone already. One going down the other going up ? If it came up Soft again would it suit PA better ?

NRNB would make it so much easier at the moment
Tell me about it. Can't wait for that now though for the majority I want to back.

Trends suggest you need to be a 150 plus horse to win the Mares Chase

And although PA is only a few pounds short of that mark, after wins in handicaps, then at 10 years old, I struggle to believe she will beat the array of younger graded horses that look likely to lineup for the race

I fancy her chances against them. Don't believe any of them could have done what she's done so far this season.

She might not even run in it yet. See what Dan says after today.

I thought they might hold her back for the festival, and end up in something like the Ultima, a race that has been seen as a GN prep previously.

Could go anywhere really after today. Hoping Dan gives us a clue. I've taken a risk on her going Mares Chase as 12/1 was just too tempting.

Exactly, could go anywhere, wouldn't touch until NRNB!!

Entitled to win today and win well but she did that in an absolute hack canter. She has improved out of all recognition and is a fantastic jumper. Never touched a twig.

Agreed, had to cover her for the mares chase after today, been holding off but she looked so at ease there, she's taken nothing out of herself, hope its one of those fridays where the 10yos have themselves some fun (Panic, Galopin, Jeffrey's).

Any post race comments??

Was plenty of them, Harry was gushing about the feel he got from her, couldn't pull her up and she'd have gone round again, Bryan was delighted, said mares & Ryanair on the table, seemed to be favouring the mares, said she'd be a live contender but the Ryanair should cut up so..
Chapman did ask Harry Skelton if there was any chance that Cobden might pinch the ride on The New Lion from him, Harry said its out of his hands, was something I hadn't thought about if I'm honest.

Thanks Envoi. Very encouraging news. I couldn't fancy her to improve enough to win a Ryanair but who knows. She'd be ultra competitive in a Mares Chase though based on what she's done so far this season. She'll be a tough nut to crack and has every chance in the GN if she stays.

Yeah I don't think Bryan was thinking the Ryanair was a winnable option, but him saying it'll cut up I suppose he's thinking it'll be good prize money at worst, at best fact To File puts in another Kempton like performance.
Chapman mentioned the Queen Mother & Gold Cup, Bryan looked at him like he'd just dropped a cat turd into his whiskey glass.

Yeah, Mares Chase might be a bit easier to win than those other races mentioned!

Panic Attack....

“It’s not very often, especially with a 10-year-old mare, you get a bit excited, but she literally would have gone round again,” the rider told Sky Sports Racing.

“She jumped the last like it was the first. She was relentless – it’s the best feel she’s given me.

“I know on figures she was going to win and you’ve got to go out there and jump, but that was a fair performance.

“I’ve had some pretty good feelings off horses and that was as good as it gets.”

Winning owner Bryan Drew said: “That was phenomenal. You worry when they’re left on their own that their concentration wavers a bit and maybe they’ll hit one and then the jockey gets agitated and it all starts to go a bit south, but that was just a schooling round for her.

“She’s absolutely in the form of her life and her confidence is sky high. She’s got better and better and she’s a joy to watch.

“She’s in the Ryanair Chase, which is a bit of a speculative entry, and she’ll be in the Mares’ Chase. At the moment you’d say she’ll be a lively contender in the Mares Chase for sure"

Decision made by the sound of it.....

The owner added: “She is in the form of her life and when you see her run like that you think you have got to have a go at the Mares’ Chase. The Grand National is definitely the plan, but there are four weeks between the races this year so you have got a chance to do both. That is a horse that is good enough to run in the Mares’ Chase. She will certainly give the Irish plenty to think about.”
