2026 Mares Chase

Don't forget Spindleberry beat Champ Kiely and Firefox cosily.

Firefox couldn't even beat Iroko before a Grand National. That's a retirement level offence

He's an open chaser rated 154.
That's still better form than losing to novices. One very heavily, and one against a horse that was breaking her maiden.
It really is no argument.

I'd be surprised if she did either and even if she did I'd be surprised if they overhaul WM and go the GC to be honest
If she runs in and runs well in the Irish Gold cup, then she'll have earnt her place in the Gold cup.
I've stated on here I think Willie is not in love with the idea of her going for gold cup, but it does appear he may give her a chance to show him he's wrong.

It was a joke because Iroko wasn't trying and still won.

I've said above I'd struggle to see Spindleberry getting closer to TBW in that Limerick race - I think it's very good form. She holds the better form claims at the minute, but I don't think it's that cut and dry. But Spindleberry's biggest race of the season is still to come so it's mostly redundant arguments anyway until after next week.

I do seem to be on my own here but just don't see why Panic Attack is such a big price for this based on what she's achieved this season. The two Handicaps she has won have to be two of the most competitive around but she won them both easily and then had a demolition job back at Newbury. The improvement she has made has been incredible. I'd have her much closer to Dinoblue who imo looks to have regressed based on what I've seen of her in her races this season.

It's because she's 10 years old.
Won handicaps off 135 and 139.
Arguably any of the first 6 in the betting would have won those handicaps off those marks.
She's still only rated 147.
She has a stone to find with Dinoblue who is a year younger and around half a stone on spindleberry who is only 8, and a lot lighter raced than both.
Think you are over rating handicap wins this year.

FWIW I think she'd have a really good chance, but would probably like her more for the national

The National being her target is also a concern. Like she'll run at Cheltenham because will already have her mark for the National but it won't be the main goal.

I very much doubt that at all. Plenty have tried that Handicap double and failed. It is an incredible achievement imo . I didn't give her a chance of doing it . And it was the way she won them as well. So much in hand.

Get what you are saying purely based on ratings but she's a lot closer to Dinoblue than that based on what they've achieved this season imo. For me, Spindleberry is the one to beat if she comes here but PA will certainly give her plenty to think about.

I'd have no fear at all of that happening. This is her golden season and they'll be trying to win every race. A Cheltenham festival win is right up there with any other race.

A golden season indeed which is rare for a 10yr old mare.
The benefit of having Pipe train you for 3 seasons and ending up rated mid 120's, then the new trainer realising she could jump fences better than most.
I think any more improvement may come from going out in trip myself.
But will likely back her in the mares chase at some point.

If she wins the Grand National as well as the Mares Chase then there's no doubt she should win the NH horse of the year title as well. I really wouldn't put it past her.

She’s impressed me this season too, and against the boys which requires a mark up. I’ve covered her as she has a solid chance at a fair price, but I do think Spindleberry and Kala conti are the ones to beat. Dino regression makes her vulnerable for me.

Kala Conti will surely be Gordon's representative in the BANC after she demolishes the field in the Scilly Isles ??😉

Panic Attack comes here, Ryanair is/was on the table but as things stand its Mares then Grand National.

Lobos do you mean this quote "Mares' Chase isn't keeping me up at night and she's in her prime. I'm starting to dream about Gold Cups" definetly not in the last few days ?
Basically im all over panic and diva luna. quite annoyed the racing TV interview with pauling cut off the Diva luna section. Cant find the quotes from last week anywhere. Especially a mambo will likely go to arkle instead of her ...maybe he wont run them both in arkle if diva is back in time,
But yes i am more eager than ever to get on Panic and Diva luna before the weekend if berry runs this weekend

Envoi is the man not me.

For those of us that want Jade De Grugy to come here, guessing we want Lossie to get beat this weekend?

Also, if Spindleberry goes well and gets directed to the Gold Cup, that must surely help. I think JDG is improving run by run and would give Dinoblue plenty to think about
