2026 Mares Chase

Why would Kala Conti go anywhere else but the mares chase ?

I don;t really see Only by Night being an issue with this.
Because her form over fences this season entitles her to imo. Plus she's heading for the Scilly Isles which Gordon used as a stepping stone for Gerri Colombe before he ran in the BANC. Plus I don't see Robcour sending them both to the Mares Chase. Plus I like winding all you lot up 😉

With Dinoblue and potentially Jade De Grugy, maybe, just maybe, Spindleberry will take her chance in the Gold Cup, provided she wins the Thyestes first, of course.

Well at least JDG is now a lower price for the Mares Chase than the Mares Hurdle !😂

Bookies are as mad as you lot 😂

Then again, she does have the beast Wodhooh to beat !

Is she definitely headed that way? I like the 16/1 for the Irish gold Cup.

So Mullins is too scared to run Lossiemouth in the Champion Hurdle but is ok to run Spindleberry in the Gold Cup?

No. By the sounds of it Mullins wants to run Spindleberry in the Mares Chase. The owner wants the Gold Cup, that's common knowledge. RR just does what Mullins says, so he has the final say on Lossiemouth.

Glad to see Spindleberry not declared for the thyestes. Didn’t see that being any sort of trial for Cheltenham. If she does go Irish gold cup, at least you have some proper grade 1 animals, so can gauge gold cup chances (though really hope if she does go, she’s beaten well and comes here….pocket talk)

Plenty of water under the bridge between now and Chelt for where Jade will end up, and as mentioned her target could realistically depend on others but if her and Spindleberry rocked up in this together (assuming the latter hasn't won the Irish Gold Cup or something) I can easily see a world where he rides JDG over her.

Personally, I can't see that, going on both horses chase runs this season.

I’d agree with Ellis, PT could definitely ride Jade over Spindle. I’d be pretty confident that the 2 horses to beat Jade are better than anything Spindle has beat in a mares listed chase and a grade 2 mares chase, given a little time.

She’s improved with each run as well, absolutely nothing wrong with her jumping and we know she handles the track perfectly well. Spindleberry hasn’t been to Cheltenham.

I'd say getting within 2.5L of TBW on that ground and trip at Limerick is the best chase run between both of them this season to be honest.

But Jade was a G1 standard hurdler, and the 3rd best mare of this generation imo (behind Lossie and BDA). I think PT may struggle to overlook that with what we know to date.

I just hope they both get there and have a cracking race. I think Paul will pick Spindleberry, however, wouldn’t be totally surprised if he went the other way. Plus Danny rode her last time, and would be a perfect deputy if so.

JDG was around 10lbs better over hurdles than Spindleberry and when they met at Leopardstown at the end of March 2024, over 2 1/2 miles, JDG won convincingly

JDG is a year younger and fencing can narrow the ratings gap between them, however I agree that TBW and Kala Conti looks good graded form at the moment, especially after what Kala Conti did with Kargese and the BTW form line with JDS

According to RPRs Jade has 13lb to find on last runs mate. More evidence to chuck em in the bin

Only if you accept Spindleberry last run RPR, which was significantly above what she had done before……….without it they are a lot closer methinks

You may well be right about the JDG AP slips ending in the bin though…..she won’t be the first or last horse I have stuck with when form, markets and general opinion suggests otherwise. 😂

I think you'd have to be off your tits thinking Townend would pick Jade over Spindleberry.

She's rated 154 IRE
She's unbeaten over fences, 3 of them listed (only one a novice) and an open grade 1.
She only had three hurdle starts, her second run was against Jade (4th hurdle race) in a grade 1.

Jade has only ran against novices and has been beaten twice in three attempts.

I like Jade du Grugy and think she may well improve and could even beat Spindleberry, but if Townend had to choose then it's an easy decision.

Wouldn't be as clear cut as that imo. But all depends what Spindleberry does next week. If she wins or goes close he's never jumping off her.

If she wins or goes close she runs in the Gold cup anyhow.
