2026 Jack Richards Novice Limited Handicap Chase

It’ll be when they ask the handicapper for a rating or enter him in a handicap over here won’t it?

If that isn’t before the festival weights are announced, if he’s only entered in the 0-145 races think we only find out what the rating is if it’s 145 or under, hopefully entered in the Ultima as well so we get to know what the handicapper rates him.

Anyone know When will we find out what mark he has given The Wallpark ?
He needs a UK entry, so assuming Elliott gives him a NH Chase entry next week that rating will be known on Tue 24th Feb.
I'll tell you now, it'll be 146+....

Cheers Ista. That'll save a bit of study time being able to eliminate him.

Got to be a fair chance JP/Elliot asks the handicapper for the rating ahead of entries. If so, and seeing as JP doesn't tend to waste entries, we may well be able to deduce his rating on entries day next Tuesday. If he's just Ultima, then it's over 145.

Yep, as a backer of his for the NH Chase he's not getting in over here below 146, IMO, either.

We hear alot of trainers having conversations with handicappers re marks, which is fair enough, but I've never known the content of those conversations be made public.
It may be the handicapper gives them an indication, like a 2-3lb range, who knows.
JP won't be concerned with the entry fees and as someone mentioned a day or two back some of them may well be smokescreens...

Would be very interesting to see what mark they give him, his jumping has been poor at times and he seems like he doesn’t want to be there.

But he’s also beaten the Big Westerner 4 lengths (would rate him at 154 now) and sliced up the Coral last year off 146 giving weight and a beating to now 159 rated Impose Toi. Be a brave handicapper to put him around the 150 mark.

I’ve back him with a Free Bet, but Willies lack of a Handicap Chase winner (madness!) tempers my enthusiasm.

Sixmilebridge
Singer Arkle Novices’ Chase, 40-1
Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase, 12-1
Jack Richards Novices’ Handicap Chase, 12-1
I’m probably the only person in Britain who wants it to keep raining, because he loves deep ground. He's won on good to soft at Cheltenham, so it wouldn’t be the end of the world if not, though. We’re keeping all our options open and no decision has been made yet on whether he runs in the Brown Advisory or the novice race – if it really rains and the Arkle was to cut up, he could even come back for that, but we’ll discuss all that with Kielan [Woods] and the owners. The ground will be the main factor in our decision. His jumping has really improved as the season has gone on and he’s been doing everything right since Sandown, so I couldn’t be happier with him.

Few nice boosts for Jordans Cross today with Kdeaux Saint Fray running a big race in a close up 3rd in the ladroke trophy and Califet En Vol winning well in the following race

Have taken the 12/1 with hills to go alongside Sixmilebridge at this stage.

Don't forget Sixmilebridge hammered Califet by 13 lengths at Cheltenham giving him 5lbs. The form is ridiculously good. Royal Infantry, 36 lengths behind those 2, ran a good 2nd off top weight today...

Theres definitely enough evidence now that Jordans and sixmile should be shorter in the betting than the current Fav.
Although all 3 have merits and lead the UK challenge I reckon.
Just depends now how the Irish declare for this.

Yep, sixmile stuffed the horse that Regents lost to on his final run. He should be fav.

Clutching a little but he's definitely a danger
Trainer said Miami Magic liked the ground at Cheltenham. He didn't look comfortable going right handed to my eye. Ruby Walsh said the same on Road To Cheltenham. Miami Magic was supposed to be running at the festival but hasn't got an entry so might of been feeling something. Regent Stroll will get 5lb from him but soft or heavy would favour Sixmilebridge.

Regents Stroll was having his third run in in just over a month and I'm sure connections were over the moon with not winning. I think The Jack Richards has always been the plan since not winning the John Francome on debut due to RS unexpectedly being lit up and running with the choke out for a long way in the race. You would have expected him to be tailed off but he stayed on for third, beaten just over 6l by horses who had previous runs and are decent(Wendigo). Nicholls aims his best Novices at the JF and he must have had some confidence in Regents to be sending him there on his debut considering the likes of Clan Des Obeaux, Pic D'Ory, Stage Star and Hermes Allen all had a prep before running there. His jumping is wonderful in my opinion and I just love the way he just seems to float quickly over the fences and in his 2 subsequent races, he has not been lit up and pulled like he did on debut.

I'm really confident Regents is going to run a massive race and think he could easily have at least 10lbs in hand.

Would love Sixmile to be fav and Regents to go out in price as I would top up! I do already have Sixmile as backup though!!

I think nicholls has a few weapons in regents and Quebecois, value went far too early for me to get on regents. Think he has a solid chance, but not at the prices anymore. Also not a fan of when they cram in 3 quick ones then put them away. Especially for a horse like regents who I think could be done for race experience….given the way he’s raced that is.

He's ran 3 times. 13 of the past 14 winners of the race had run three or four times over fences(from gaultstats).
I don't think experience will be an issue, just if there's another potential G1 horse that's well handicapped. Koktail Divin could be this horse so I do have him covered but I think his first preference is still the BANC.
I think Regents current price may hold and could be bigger after Decs so I would hold off if not already on at bigger. You'll also get better place concessions if you're an EW backer.

Oh I fully agree 3 runs the way to go for this race, my point was more around the fact I’m not sure he’s matured as others have within those three runs. Looks a bit of a headcase to me, with a massive massive engine though. If he can be professional, he’ll be super dangerous….I want a bigger price though, given my view in the risk.

Sounds like Pauling will be running Meetmebythesea here after all if all goes well with the prep
