2026 Champion Chase

Gidleigh park looks set to take his chance in the Clarence house at Ascot on Saturday.
Looking at the forecast it's a fairly mild week for this time of year, however it looks like sufficient rain is forecast to keep the ground on the softer side of good. Let's hope so.

I've always thought he would be seen to best effect using his superior jumping to put his rivals under pressure at around 2 miles.
The lengths he gains at fences for me makes up for his shortfall in speed.

It's easy to forget he's unbeaten in 3 runs at around 2 miles, one bumper, one hurdle and one chase. Ok none of them have been at the top level but he also hasn't been tried yet.

Depending on what happens Saturday he may get his shot at the champion chase. Where I actually think the tighter nature and jumping test of the old course will suit, he wasn't overly inconvenienced by the turns of Windsor and I think he could have them all in trouble turning for home.

We all have dreams.....
Your commitment to GP is what racing is all about imo, really warms the cockles

….P Mullins re IET;

‘Mullins told Sporting Life: “I think Ascot is the plan for him at the moment. He worked well for Paul Townend this morning and it’s obviously a race we’ve had a bit of luck in – and got on the wrong side of some clashes as well.

“The last time they met at Sandown it was very much in Il Etait Temps’ favour but I’m sure Nicky will get Jonbon back to his best.

“It will be good see round three but look we couldn’t be happier with our horse and he’s probably in his prime whereas Jonbon is maybe coming out of his prime which could give us the advantage.”

Cobden rides Jonbon at the weekend, JP wasting no time in getting him jocked up.

Not too much pressure then for his first ride ! JP's fav horse.

Out of interest
Do we know if Nico had the choice, Jonbon or OPS ?
No idea, maybe he won't be riding the JP horses in march (If Cobden is available) so they thought it'd be better if he rode one of the novices he'll definitely be riding in the spring.

Article in post goes into detail why Cobden riding jonbon
Articles saying he’d been jocked off a little premature
Can’t post article as on phone at minute

Yep, one of those isn't it.......are you prepared to give him another chance. I am.
No, I’ll be against IET. Keep coming back to Majborough, if his jumping has improved his chances are increased imo but that’s a big if though

Il Etait Temps

"He goes to Ascot in great form, and I don’t think the course should be any problem to him. He goes well right-handed, it’s a fair track and the ground shouldn’t be an issue, so we are hoping for another big run."

Willie on the verge of accepting he's no chance at Cheltenham
