2026 Champion Bumper

Bass Hunter is like a caged tiger at the moment. He is a keen going forward horse and it would be nice if we could get someone to help him in the Champion bumper. He was going to go to Windsor bumper or a Listed bumper at Newbury but on both occasions the ground was shocking. He handles soft ground, but soft ground pulls him around a bit. He is a big six-year-old, and the chiropractor has always got hold of him. We have had him away for couple of days to Lambourn and he is in good order. (Chris Gordon)

32 entries in bumper with a max field size of 22. I believe that BHA produce ratings to decide who gets a run. Using RPRs the 10 who would miss out would be per below (so don't get too excited yet that any Heldam bets are going to get a run!). BHA ratings do not necessarily line up with RPRs though.

Nimba
Vango Can Go
Heldam
The Wager
No Walkover
Kilaro
Tythingman
Littlebobbydazzler
Not Without Danger
St Invictus

Loving that Chicker is still entered up, with the possibility of some good in the going description I've had a little ew at 66's with Hills, added a small boost to bump it up to 75/1.

O'Leary on the Champion Bumper...

"Keep Him Company is who we think is our best horse going there.

"Listen, hopefully we'll run Keep Him Company, probably Charismatic Kid and The Irish Avatar. And I would say, in our mind, Keep Him Company is probably the strongest."

….Snowden;

WILDE’S LEGACY

“He is a big price for the Champion Bumper, but he is a horse that I really like.

"He bolted up in his first bumper on the all-weather and he then followed up under a penalty in soft ground at Huntingdon.

"He has got bags of speed and I think he is massively overpriced.

“I think he is mentally ready for this as I think he is a smart horse. It will be a competitive race as you would expect, but I wouldn’t be swapping our lad.”

Max Field of 22. I’m not sure though if they factor in the mares allowance to get them in otherwise Dan’s horse may struggle to get in.

The BHA handicapper likes the It’s Only a Game / Boycetown form.

The 7lb allowance is added on so Mets Ta Ceinture is guaranteed a run. The Skecher is first on the "reserve" list. The Wager won the ballot for those on 115 so will get in before No Walkover.

As @DenmanSacre pointed out above, the official handicapper has taken a positive view of the Its Only A Game / Boycetown form. Below is a list of all the runners with the difference in lbs between the RPR and the Official Rating (OR). The higher the number the higher the horse is rated relatively by the RP, the lower the number the higher the horse is rated relatively by the official handicapper. The RP rates Nimba, Diamant Dore and Wildes Legacy the highest relative to their OR whereas the official handicapper rates Not Without Danger, Tythingman and Boycetown the highest relative to the RP. It will be interesting to see after the race is run whether the RP handicapper or the Official handicapper had a better handle on the form.

It's Only A Game has been nibbled over the last few days. There might have been some value in the 25/1, but not the 10/1 some are offering. I think he was the best horse in that Leopardstown race, but got so worked up, he really should have been withdrawn. Despite it being the last race there must be a fair chance that might happen again. You can also pretty much guarantee he will be dropped out so he will be a hostage to fortune. Better than what he has done on paper, but too many negatives.
