2025 Ryanair Chase

Go back a season, and plenty were saying Corbetts Cross didn't stay in the AB (before running out) and should have been a Turners horse. Now the question marks seem to be if he has the speed for a Ryanair. I think it shows that graded horses can largely operate at any of the extended trips.

His jumping is average though. It isn't bad, just a little deliberate and slow. If he improves in that department he can go to the top imo.

His jumping was in and out last season but that was his Novice season and it didn't stop him winning what was a very hot beginners Chase early on and then winning impressively at the Fez. As you say, given improvement in that dept he'll be a hard horse to beat.

Agree, well I do in respect of the Old Course.
His better performances have come on galloping tracks so it could be a switch to the New Course brings about improvement.
Top weights/near top weights won't have a great record in the Irish National but to me he looks made for it, so if he was mine I'd be skipping Cheltenham....

And he got comprehensively roasted by Grangeclare West. Very excited about him. Hoping for some good news regarding his wellbeing. Very keen on him from a GC perspective. I think he is potentially top tier.

He's extremely talented but 7 runs so far as an 8yr old, turning 9, shows how fragile he is. One I'm happy to avoid for ante post purposes.

Yeh Ive been doing some digging and they suspected it was a hairline pelvic fracture so he's going to be risky but the price is big for what he's done

Found a Fifty entered in a 3m chase at Down Royal on 2nd Nov - early entry would suggest he’s healthy. Also 3m race would suggest that he is being seriously considered to be campaigned over a distance this season - good news methinks for 40/1 ante post supporters for the Ryanair

Impervious nearing a return to the track after 18 months out. Know she was a strong fancy for this by several before getting injured. Mares Chase also an option but JP has others for that.
 
Ginny's Destiny will get an entry in the PP Gold Cup. PN is planning to prep him for Cheltenham in a race at Newton Abbot of all places in a week's time. Runs off the same weight as Stage Star when he won the race (155). Paul says GD may also get an entry in the King George.

Paul suggested GD winning the King George was the result he’d most like to see this season. Implied he thinks he’s got a real chance. Also, looking at the breeding, you’d think the step up in trip would help. With Paul also suggesting SAF is more a National type and BMG rising 10, I’d not be surprised if GD is his Gold Cup horse this year.

Yes, could easily happen. I'm off to PP day again this year so I'll definitely be having a nice bet on GD to win that first. Lots of weight but lots of class and he just jumps for fun around Cheltenham. Super horse to watch in the flesh.
 
Another potential Willie Mullins option for the Ryanair could be Bronn. Injured in the run up to last years Festival and was 3rd in 2023 BANC behind The Real Whacker and Gerri Colombe. Will only be 8 in March. After a season ending injury we need to see him back on the track but he could fit the profile of 3m Chaser dropping back to 2.5m a la Protektorat. And while I am at it what about The Real Whacker dropping back to 2.5miles. He clearly didn't get 3m2 in Gold Cup last year. HIs front running style could be perfect for the Ryanair. Neither are currently quoted so maybe I am thinking too far out the box. Eyes peeled !

Love thinking outside the box but id be fundamentally against backing anything that was injured last season. I cracked last week and backed Grangeclare West for the GC and regretted it immediately. They sometimes come back but mostly dont and it kills a P&L siding with horses who have been previously injured.
 
Everyone on here is trying to guess who will run in the Ryanair let alone win it. Keeping it simple I've just looked at the current betting and the first horse you come to who we know will definitely be targeted at the race is this year's winner Protektorat yet he's been completely ignored by all. Last year's winner went very close to winning again this year after being heavily punted into favourite. Could easily see the same again happening to Protektorat. At 14/1 and bigger on the exchange he definitely is the 'sensible ' and most obvious bet to start off with in the race.

True but some of us are backing horses that won't go near the race at lesser prices than 14/1. He needs to be in the book first then build on it.

I'm with you. I am not as "brave and fearless" as I suggested. I have him in the book for 2025 and I was on him this year at 33/1. Best single priced winner for me at 2024 Festival. Also have Il Etait Temps and Gaelic Warrior in my Ryanair 2025 team. Am now seeking my 2025 version of Protektorat at 33/1 or bigger. Hence the Bronn and The Real Whacker out the box thinking.

I'm not everyone Lobos ..:upset: , As you say . the Previous winner should be the Starting point ..
Only thing that concerns me is , if Dan Skelton might aim Grey Dawning here instead of the Gold Cup.
But Protektorat is in the team already .:encouragement: .
 
Not that I'd be backing any Nicholls horses after the weekend, but Ginny's Destiny currently showing as entered at Newton Abbot over 2m4f on Saturday.

Entries close at midday.
