2025 Mares Hurdle

With the news re JDG and that if she comes back this season then she will not go chasing, then where does this leave Kargese and Gala Marceau ?

In Willies stable tour he mentions both as MH candidates, but adds that if Gala jumps well when schooled then she may go MC…..Gala not priced for the MC at the moment

Kargese is rated similar to Gala over hurdles yet is a year younger. Same trainer and owner as JDG

With BDA probably going for the MH and if so, will probably make the race a true test to try and run the finish out of Golden Ace, then do we think Kargese can stay the 2 1/2 miles of the MH based upon her style of running last season ? Being beaten by Sir Gino by just over 3l doesn’t look so bad after the weekend.

At the moment JDG looks on form to have the better chance in the MH, with the higher rating and form over 2 1/2 miles.

Could either Kargese or Gala go County instead ?

The picture looks chaotic at the moment, but where’s there’s Chaos there’s opportunity and in turn Value !

Only seem to be quoting a handful of races - and have two even money favs for the Albert as well!

If, like me, you believe BDA will definitely go CH then there's value to be had in the Mares Hurdle. Lossiemouth going CH, doubts re JDG, Golden Ace beaten in debut.......If they can get Kargesse to settle then she's the one to beat for me.

If however you believe BDA will go MH then it's a closed race imo.

So you back Kargese for the MH believing that BDA goes CH (I agree with you as I think she will go CH and that’s why I am looking particularly close at the MH market)

You hope that JDG misses the festival as she is higher rated than Kargese and has form at 2 1/2 miles ?

and that Gala jumps like a stag and goes MC ?

It’s another conundrum where an owner and trainer have three in the race, all with relative chances and logic says that all three will not run in the race ! :boxing:

Will BDA and Lossie both go for the CH? Rare to have a mare go for the Champ hurdle let alone two in the same season. Be great to see and hope they do but surely one will bottle it (Probably Elliott) and take the easier Mares hurdle.

Let’s hope so
Both deserve a crack for sure

Really? I think it's very common now, had some decent Mares over recent years, and trainers catching on with the allowance that gives them an even better shot! Has been 2 or more too, However I do feel Apples Jade running year if Gordy has that in back of his mind! But I'd say she (BDA) will be entered in both right up to Dec's, and make a call from there.

Got JDG covered at a big price and I just can't have Gala for anything. Kargesse for me is the classiest of the three and if with another trainer she'd be trained for the CH. If she stays then her current price of 10's is huge imo.

Mares have turned up when the opposition wasn't strong. Honeysuckle was the highest rated in 2022 and that's not even accounting for the 7lb allowance. Epatante was 2nd that year also, but with the 7lb allowance she was joint 3rd best at the weights, 2lb behind Teahupoo. In 2021 Honeysuckle and Epatante were 1st and 3rd but again, allowing for the weight allowance then they were the best two at the weights.

Obviously there is a long way to go and waiting on a reassessment for Lossiemouth but currently they will only be 3rd and 4th best accounting for the weight allowance. Agree though, I expect it will be a late decision on BDA while they see who will show up, plus what she does in her next race.

Kevin Blake on JDG following his chat with Willie....

......."Mullins went on to reveal that Jade De Grugy has picked up an injury bad enough to rule her out for at least the first half of the season. Considering this, her general price of 4/1 for the Mares’ Hurdle seems to be very optimistic. "

Performance of the day that from Wodhooh from both horse and Trainer.

Has it been said anywhere what race BDA is likely to go for next ? Gone very quiet.

Gordon today spoke on ATR

Options of both the 2m and 3m at Xmas then all roads lead to the Mares

ATR questioned what if she beat SM at Xmas, and he basically said he wants a winner at the festival and that would be more likely in the Mares, he sounded shit scared of Lossie.

Cheers Darlo. I don't blame him !!

So she beats the current CH champ, but her trainer is scared of the current Mares Champ?
Really??!!
If that is the case, he needs to grow a pair imo

He'd probably say that he might have no balls (probably ate them) but he does have eyes.

Yep and his eyes tell him it’s a waste of time taking on Lossiemouth apparently.
Shame for the build up for the CH imo.
Good for this race though I guess.
