2025 Mares Hurdle

State man must in some form if he was making her look bad at home :devilish:

Never out of 2nd gear, still leaves a sour taste though

Indeed

I won on her and it's still annoying

Especially because I'd have been on the winner anyway with jade de grugy

Unless con hill is back to near his best they may have thrown away a champion hurdle winner

she was clearly in much better form today than at xmas

I’d hope they consider making this a handicap after that

Shades of Vautour's Ryanair performance after switching

It just needs to be a grade 2 with a 5lb or 7lb penalty on grade 1 winners

We don't need any more handicaps

Agree about the handicaps, but do you think 5 or 7lb is stopping Lossiemouth?

She could have won with 15lbs on her back the way she done it.

Has to be a ratings cap, as per Mighty suggestion, IMO.

I agree. And get rid of the Mares Novice race too. They can come here or go to the Supreme/Ballymore to take on the boys. Their big Grade 1 is at Fairyhouse anyway.

Would it have stopped her from winning? Probably not

Would it have stopped them from running her? I think so personally

I don't like a ratings cap personally as there will be mares who are very good 2m4f specialists that won't be able to run.

had there been a 150 ceiling jade de grugy wouldn't have run at the festival.

I don't think you can have a ratings cap in a graded race really. Just appropriate penalties.

I think they still would have run her, she's miles clear of the rest.

I know JDG wouldn't have run, but that would be the race conditions for me, tough luck on her and her connections. Once you hit 150+ you go elsewhere.

The bigger problem for me would be you're encouraging horses to get rated below that pre festival. So Jade De Grugy would've realistically underperformed in her prep and got in below 150 comfortably...

The best solution is probably to move it away from the festival.

Yeah, sorry, this would be the ultimate solution. I can't see them doing this so, so in keeping it I'd cap it.

Are there any graded races at all (ones and twos), with a rating limit ??
I can't think of one.

They should just have a penalty system and make it a grade 2.
Or move the race altogether

Couldn't they just move the mares race from the festival and run it in January or sumat ?

And add a 75th handicap for the week?

No thanks

Maybe i hadn't thought that through enough !:biggrin-new: moving the race would at least mean the good mares either go champion hurdle or nowhere at the festival though.
