2025 Champion Chase

So…. Back to the horses
Energumene - Hilly Way, Clarence House or DRF, CC
Jonbon - Tingle Creek, Clarence House, CC
El FAb - DRF, Ryanair?
Gaelic - Not heard much, anyone know race plans?

….source; Mullins ATR stable tour re GW;

“He missed a little bit of time, but he’s back on the go now. He will go for the Grade 1 over two miles at Leopardstown’s Christmas meeting and then go to the Dublin Racing Festival. The Clarence House would be an option, but just an option. The Champion Chase is his long-term target.“

Excellent
Was thinking GW for a race at Xmas and then DRF before CC. Good news that.
Thanks Eggs

Dinoblue ran a cracker in the mares chase last season on that testing ground with her stamina doubts. Think she wins that this time if less testing.

Agreed, Only 2 pounds in the difference this time between her and limerick lace i believe. Her best chance is in the mares chase. she isn't in the top 3, 2 milers in Willie's. El fabiolo, energumene and gaelic warrior ahead of her.
Willie was all over the place talking about Dinoblue. Said she finished 2nd in the Champion chase this year, and said she would go to Opera Hat in Naas and onto DRF.. he is trying to get horses to travel back in time as Opera hat is week after DRF.

Can't go Hilly way and 2 month break to DRF or Opera Hat IMO.
You would be disappointed if she didnt win the Opera hat going on last years renewal but she finished 1st and 2nd in leopardstown so she has good form there. Logic for me would be to run with Gaelic warrior at christmas to pick up the pieces if he does an el fabiolo Champion chase job on it and then to Opera Hat and then mares chase. 2 winnable races and 1 season opener with similar breaks between races.
Willie left a cheltenham winner behind with her last year. She would have won the champion chase with the way it unfolded and if he went the route last year he is talking about this year she wouldn't have had the 5 pound penalty from her win at Leopardstown in the grade 1 at Xmas so would have beat limerick lace.

I'm already looking forward to the 'out in trip ' comment from Willie re Energumene this weekend after he somewhat disappoints in the HillyWay .

Jonbon getting the 365 super boost treatment today, evens at the moment

Hoping for a nice win for Jonbon, but also want a big race from Quilixios, was impressed with his run last time and be interesting to see how he fares in this company

I just can't see past Jonbon today, He has had a run which should mean he is fit, form at track, trip and going, basically he gets beat now I've tipped him.

Hell of a performance

Little over reach there, small cut of off hind, nowt to worry about, just thats why he was kicking out a bit there, they was trying to wash it off.

Up there with his best performances. Best 2m performance so far this season. Doubt he wins at Cheltenham as he does underperform there but would be good to see Gaelic Warrior, Energumene and/or El Fabiolo face him at Ascot, Aintree and Sandown where he performs better.

I did think his performance at Cheltenham last time was his best jumping there.
If he repeated that in March I think he will be very hard to beat.
But of course GW might simply be a better horse, but he’s yet to do it at the top
senior level.
Jonbon sets the standard this season.

You've just got to hand it to Jonbon haven't you.

Early doors was given the 'Douvans brother' treatment.

Then the 'Oh he's not as good as Douvan treatment.

Then he's not at the level of 'Constitution Hill' which in fairness over hurdles he wasn't but he's still got bashed for being 2nd best to Constitution Hill.

And after all that he's been a lot more sound than the pair of them and earnt more than the pair of them too!

Fantastic horse to own.

You'd love to own him wouldn't you.

I'm off the opinion that Douvan minus his injury would've been up there with the greats.

But you can say that about many, many horses in the past. I do feel we'll be saying the same re Constitution Hill in the future that he ', could ' have been a great. Horses like Jonbon with their longevity will always stick in people's minds longer and deserve a little more credit than they get.

Any horse that has a race record that Jonbon has deserves a lot more credit imo.
