2024 Stayers Hurdle

About as lethal as Christopher Biggins in a fist :barbershop_quartet_member:fight:barbershop_quartet_member:

….Sir G out to 25-1 with PP.

….Sir G out to 25-1 with PP.

Might be significant as PP seem to be adjusting a lot of their books today, maybe prior to the Christmas entries starting to come out tomorrow. I'd rather SirG not go for the Stayers as he could be a live danger to Teahupoo and Theleme who I'm both more invested in.

Fergal O'Brien believes the big handicap hurdle on Betfair Chase day was "the one that got away" as he plans to launch his promising stayer Crambo into open Grade 1 company for the first time in the Howden Long Distance Hurdle (2.25).

Crambo was sent off at 5-1 at Haydock after a bullish update from his joint-owner Chris Giles, who had already backed him at 33-1 for the Stayers' Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival in March, but the six-year-old could finish only third to Slate Lane after meeting trouble in running.

The Grade 3 EBF Final winner was pulled up in last year's Challow Hurdle and finished seventh in the Mersey Novices' Hurdle at Aintree but is the outright favourite with a number of firms for Ascot's feature event on Saturday, when he will face horses up to five years his senior, including Champ and Paisley Park.

"He’s still very young and he’s won a lot of races for us but I feel like Haydock was one that got away from us," O'Brien said. "He worked very well on Friday, he schooled again on Monday and we're very happy with him.

"We’re going to roll the dice and run him in the Long Walk, which will answer a few questions. The handicapper put him up 3lb for finishing third last time and he’s on the cusp of Graded racing."

Connor Brace has partnered Crambo for eight of his nine starts, including at Haydock – Paddy Brennan was aboard in the Challow – but will not be aboard on Saturday when Johnny Burke is set to take the ride for the first time

Must've been expected after the ride the last day.

Big move tonight for West Balboa in Long Walk and also cut into 10/1 for Stayers by Hills.

I wish there was a special ..... to win the Long Walk and be nowhere near winning a Stayers Hurdle..... :devilish: would be all over that at 1/100

Unless it's Dashel Drasher :cower:

Fav and 2nd fav for the (grade 1?) Long walk rated 143 and 142

And one of them got beat off 139 in a handicap last time

Mental how piss poor this division is

On ratings, should prob win Sat with small improvement….but need to find another stone-ish to win in Match

Not impossible…..and I backed ages ago at 40s….but feels big jump

Crapbo should be 10/1+ for the long walk surely

Got 15lb to find on champ and Paisley
17lb to find with Dashel

At least West Balboa gets 7lb so only has to find 7lb and 9lb which seems slightly more plausible but still a big ask

(Hopefully nobody remembers me saying this when he wins :watermelon:)

The market for this race is well off IMO.
West Balboa you could make a case for but I'm not convinced at that price anyway.
Of the lower rated types I'd rather back Gowel Road each way than the front 2 in the market.

He was on entries

No Sir Gerhard in the Jack de Bromhead hurdle

PP seemed to know, they pushed him out to 25s for Stayers

Picked up an injury when he fell and Willie did say we might not see him until the New Year.

Has there been any mention of Blazing Khal's future plans? He seems a forgotten horse this season. He was 70.0+ on the exchanges last week so perhaps he's on the easy list again.

He’s been entered in a hurdle race at Punchestown (Sir Gerhard).

Gives him more or less an extra week.

It’s over 2m3f.
