Just backed myself at 40ew probably the right time to back him.
I think he may run again, and possibly not that well, which is the risk, but there's always risk.

No he did run well. As did Gaelic. But things affecting stable form don’t always carry across the whole yard.

In terms of Rubys comments, I’ve always been in two minds as to whether it’s Ruby minding expectations about such an exciting horse or whether it was a genuine hint. I tend to the earlier view only because I don’t think they’d know until the horse was on the track.

Fastorslow should be second in the betting, no question about that. He scored a 165 and 175 on his first two runs over 3 miles.... as a novice chaser! He was ignored towards the end of last season, he was ignored again by most at the start of this one, and I feel he will continue to be dismissed to a degree

If Gerri beat GDC today, he would be fav right now. Fastorslow has beaten GDC twice now, and its not like Fastorslow go his conditions today, I think he needs 3 miles just as much as GDC and Gerri.

I wouldnt dismiss Appreicate It's run either today. Could feature in the Ryanair, the John Durkan does produce some decent ones to follow, depsite being 9 pushing 10.

I was in the Fastorslow camp before this, and was a little shocked to see him win - thought the trainer would have used this as a prep.
I think he should be second fav for the GC, and the 6/1's around is decent enough for those who are turning on side.

I've just backed GDC to cover my position, he will turn up in the DRF, likely to run against weaker opposition and win. He'll then shorten for the GC. Not sure he will run to this dizzy RPR of last season, but you'll need something that will run into 178's s to beat him

Corach smells of a horse that wants to win another National. Obviously.
I can only see him being fully ready for 2 races this year, Gold Cup and National, they will hope his mark drops a little in his runs before the weights are out I reckon.
Similar to last season.
Both the Gold cup and National will suit him better as he doesn't seem to travel as well unless given cover in a bigger field, this may be an illusion though and down to just not being fully fit, or good enough :highly_amused:

It's easy to say for me now because he's been beaten.
but I was already thinking it before today, especially with how BMG ran yesterday.

I think it's dangerous to write galopin off just yet, I want to see what he does when he runs over 3m again at leopardstown, imo i think he looks like he needs every yard of 3m, I know he won the John durkan last season over 2m4, but his run in the irish gold cup it took him a good while to properly get going was only in the last 150 yards that he pulled way clear and again at Cheltenham and in punchestown gold cup he was absolutely flying by the time he crossed the line but got going too late so I just think maybe a track like punchestown that suits speedier types more doesn't suit him so much anymore, certainly makes for a interesting division now going forward

Just for clarity I haven’t and obvs one seems to have improved much more than the other(Ultima first time they let Fast Or Slow try to the crooks)but you just know it’s going to be a dart for a prominent tipster/show now with the prices etc

He did indeed have loads of pace and zest as a novice, think it was before or just after irish gold cup willie said they'd been doing alot of stamina laden training with him tho so think they may have just done it too well almost in getting him to relax and settle etc, maybe the gold cup has left its mark or maybe he needed the run more than they though who knows :cheerful:

Yeah, he has lost the zest he has as a novice, and he had to to be able to get the Gold Cup trip
Personally, if I was a GDC fan/follower/AP backer, I'd be pleased with that run today

When discussing Imagine earlier today this was mentioned.

Trainer Gordon Elliott added: “He’s a nice horse and probably wants further. Two and a half miles would probably suit him better.

“The Grade 1 in Limerick at Christmas could be an option or we might bring him to Kempton on Boxing Day for the Grade 1 novice and run Gerri Colombe in the King George but I could change my mind ten times before then!”

If Gentlemansgame beats Galopin and Fastorslow and Gerri turns up at Kempton and wins, We could be looking at a Robcour 1st and 2nd fav here.

Just interested in asking a couple of questions here Opatcho with regards your post -

1) You mention you are/ were in Fastorslow’ camp before the race…..but were a little shocked to see him win. Why then, if ‘onside’ beforehand, were you surprised to see him win?

2) You’ve mentioned that you’ve now ‘covered’ your Gold Cup position by backing Galopin D C, despite him lengthening from 2-1 to 3-1, hardly I would suggest on his 2 previous runs, and the bookies unwillingness to conform, is much of a ‘cover’?

3) You mention he’s likely ‘to run against weaker opposition……and shorten for the GC”….. in the Irish Gold Cup.

When was the last Irish Gold Cup where the overall field were weaker than any running of a John Durkan Chase??

I’d be surprised if any, ever???
