2024 Gold Cup

Brilliant performance by GMG on only his third chase start, but BMG clearly the better horse for me, just lacking race fitness. Having backed GMG ew at 66/1, I'm thrilled that he's enhanced his place prospects but I don't see him beating a race fit BMG or GDC yet. Plenty of scope for improvement if he manages to stay sound though so the dream lives on in that regard!

My view exactly. I am also on him at 66/1 EW and am more hopeful of a Place at least after yesterday. The scope for improvement is definitely there so fingers crossed. Nice project to sit back and enjoy.

Well done you two. 66's looks very good after yesterday's eye opening performance and he can only improve. Brilliant ew shout from you guys.

Eggs was further ahead than all of us, mentioning him on the second page of the thread!

Shout out to Brooksie as well, using his double odds boost to get 132/1 this week... I hope it was ew though :hopelessness::highly_amused:

….I was wondering if Gentlemansgame might be of interest for this. I appreciate Robcour have a more high-profile contender but he was highlighted at the start of last season and won nicely over 2m 5f on his debut over fences. Not widely quoted but 66-1 with Hills.

Take a Bow Eggs.

Yep. Same here. Brooksie initially brought him to my attention. Then spotted Eggs had mentioned him very early. Did a bit of video watching then Cillian on "We're Going Chasing" podcast tipped him up as his first AP selection so my FOMO kicked in. Thanks to each and every one of ya !

Correct me if I’m wrong but did I see Hendo suggest Shishkin might go to the Betfair Chase? 9/1 looks good value if so especially if the field cuts up like it often does

Well played BOH. Hope you went for it.

Anyone else like Gentlemansgame for this? I know they have Gerri, but I've always had the impression Mouse been keeping things light for this boy with the big one in mind. Charlie Hall entry is interesting and if he was to perform well 66s would look big. Heck if he won, we might start getting a few War of Attrition comparisons from MM.

Thrown a William Hill odds boost at him anyhow 132/1 :watermelon:

So many hidden texts in this thread. This one's a proper boomer !

Odin lol Unfortunately I'm limited to a 5er with the William Hill boost so only had the win at 132s, I placed a bet at 66s each way though and thrown him in some multiples with some other hit and hope outlandish selections :saturn:

If he gets there fit and well, we should get some kind of run for our money at least.

So - What is the consensus for tomorrow’s grade 1 ??

As someone who’s crabbed Gerri Colombe’s price I’ve backed Envoi Allen at 13-2.
Basically on the prices. Given his course form.
I may lay Gerri Colombe also if he gets stupidly short.

It’s a tough enough test first time up against horses of proven class and with a race under their belts. Especially as Gordon had stated he’s all about March so how ready will he be for this test ?
Backers at single figures ideally would like to see him win, and the sad thing about this is that the horses he’s running against are unlikely to be contenders in the Gold cup in any case.

I've also backed Envoi Allen tomorrow. And so has everyone I've spoken to. And yet he still seems to be drifting. :apthy:

Would Gerri fans back him to win the PP Gold Cup off top weight if he were in it ??

If so, should you not be smashing into The Real Whacker in that race? Why is he not fav if he beat Gerri who is the strongly backed GC 2nd fav??

I too have backed Envoi tomorrow and rolled him up onto Stage Star in the PP GC as I'm off to Cheltenham next Saturday. So hoping Rach makes all on him and jumps them silly. Hoping the course form and fitness advantage will prove enough.

Far too tricky for me.
Could make a case for all of them.
Will watch with interest but no wager.

Get off the fence :welcoming:

Or make a case for them all and I'll pick and back the one you've done the best job on - might be a great system!

Definitely on the fence.
If you could make a case for all of them, then you'd be laying the arse off of Gerri.

I don’t lay horses and doubt I ever will.
But yes, if I did I would lay GC at the prices.

Yep, fence sitting on this one.
Just can’t be confident enough to gamble my money, and the race is interesting enough for me without a bet anyway.
