2024 Gold Cup

Fitness, weight, ground got BMG beat........plus a very good Novice !!

I would say visually it looked like BMG would win coming to the last, but I’m not convinced he would have won had he jumped the last ok, winner was not beaten at all at the time

I think if he had pushed him on ahead of the last ..the last might not have mattered as much..but agree with others. He gave 6lb, less fitness and soft to heavy ground.. also pretty important.. really good performance by GMG too of course but would be surprised if he is in the 1st three at cheltenham

Well the Gold Cup is normally a tough competitive race , but he is an improving young horse, and dangerous to dismiss imo, and still a nice price I think

That's true but I can't bet on everything (though I'll try!) Just an opinion..I think the price (25s in places) is both very good....and right.

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Gentlemansgame is there or thereabouts come March. Building up quite a CV now for a horse that was always regarded as a potential top class staying chaser. And brought along steadily by Morris.

Looked to me that Gentlemansgame did what he needed to do to win and could have done more if required. To my eyes he is a very real player in the Gold Cup.

I think GMG would be better off in Ryanair. Not because of distance, just a weaker race. But being realistic, he’s not a gold cup winner. I don’t think that a Charlie hall winner has ever won a gold cup in the same season.

But he's just beaten the KG winner and GC 2nd GB after just 2 chase runs. Whatever way you look at it, that was a seriously good performance.

Early season form likely not worth much

It's also possible bravemansgame won't get back to last seasons levels

Had 3 hard races last season and hes never had the strongest constitution

Not a chance Mouse sends him to the Ryanair after today, French Dynamite already booked for that job anyhow. GMG was only just getting going after the last, add another 2 and half furlongs on today and I only see him winning by further regardless of the error by BMG. Is he good enough to beat GDC, Gerri and Shishkin... not sure tbh, but he's got great place claims at least.

My criticism of Gentlemansgame previously was he had yet to win at graded level and that he hadn't taken his racing well previously. Well he now has a grade 2 win and 2 runs on the season to his name which is more than he managed all last season so there is plenty of promise. Seemed to see the trip out well today and jumping was pretty accurate. Did have the benefit of fitness over BMG today and getting 6lb in weight has seen the horse given an rpr of 165, a career best by some way. Looking at last few years 171 was needed for 3rd last season, 169 in 2022 though 2021 required an RPR of 175 just for a place. He's not for me but he is trending in the right direction at least.

Makes you realise the impossible task Envoi Allen had trying to give all that weight to GMG at Gowran. Can mark that performance up a bit now and look forward to taking on Gerri next week.

GMG received weight and was race fit. At level weights and both fit, would’ve have seen which way BMG went.

I'm not saying he's gonna win a gold cup but today was only his third chase start and first at three miles so plenty of scope for improvement.

With that logic Easy Game ought to be the one to beat that side of the water then.

Early days but Gentlemensgame won in quite a smooth unfussy way given his lack of experience.
Bravemansgame didn’t do his reputation no harm either.
Was available at 80-1 vs 6-1 Gerri prior to today and less exposed. He’s also raced better horses so far.
The owner looks like he may have 2 challengers in with a shout come March given luck with injuries.
Irrespective of what either do before then, they both look the types to be respected in a gold cup IMO

Just watched the race

Bravemansgame put in a very tired jump at the last

Could barely get himself off the ground

Beaten by a race fit horse, giving him 6lb and almost fell at the last on ground he won't have liked

Can see now having watched it why he's barely moved in price for the king george

I was thinking when I checked the results when out this afternoon I might be able to hedge my shiskin 8s with 4s on bravemansgame
