2024 Cheltenham - the odds on offer.

I would be interested in prices last March for the first three home in the Arkle and BANC .
I know Jonbon was 10…. anyone know the rest?

El Fab was 33/1 up until Aintree (365). Not sure you’d have got a price about Saint Roi. Dysart was 20/1 (365).

Gerri was 33/1. You’d not have got a price about the other two I doubt.

Wow, thank you EE, very impressive!! And very interesting.
Much appreciated.

It was because El Fab missed the festival that year, so was slightly overlooked in the market. Got me thinking - are there any others like that this year?

I'm with you there.

I presume we will see him again in the next month.

I have an inkling it might be Aintree rather than Punchestown. Gordon seems keen on sending a strong team over, and I’d imagine he’d wasn’t to avoid MN or FV at this stage of his career.

He's about the only viable second season chaser I could think of. And his chasing profile isn't a million miles behind GDM, was my very basic thinking. Plus Mullins pointing him out a planned second season novice pre BANC was the final piece for me to hit the button at 25s.

He's 6 or 7lb inferior to GDM and was an inferior hurdler also, so on that basis I can see why you'd be a bit reluctant and expect better (first season) novices to appear.

He's fairly inexperienced as a racehorse though, so can't really rule out progress from him either though. It's not a race I'd want to back anything else in at this point to be honest. But I also wouldn't back him at 12s to be fair :welcoming:

Yeh, 25s was fair enough but he's best price 12s. If he was still 25s, i'd have backed him as well in all probability.

He was a low 130s hurdler so not in the same parish as GDM. In his graded chases he has been ridden to pick up the pieces and I think that has flattered him somewhat.

This has nothing to do with his ability but his legs are all over the place too. I'm not sure I've seen an action like it, not from a graded horse anyway.

Need to start reminding hills to open a market as they’re generally better odds than sky

….trying to recall when they opened their a/r market last year but think it was a while after Sky.

I don't mind IAM for the NHC, felt like he's been schooling in public most of the season anyway, similar path to GDM, JP purchase has to be a positive. Not many other obvious candidates out there as there has been the last couple of seasons. Wouldn't be rushing in at 12s mind.

…..no idea but I looked back at the equivalent thread this time last year. A number of posters highlighting James’ Gate @ 20-1 after he came third in the CB. This years 3rd, Captain Teague is currently 33-1 for Ballymore.

C Hill was 5-1 Arkle, Delta 5-1 XC.

I've just looked at my bets from last year and my first twar bet with hills was placed on March 24th.

I think there’s loads of possible candidates this time. I wouldn’t just pigeonhole the race for second season chasers, yes the experience helps but the recency bias could start to get overplayed here.

I meant obvious candidates, as was the case with RWF and GDM, there are of course a ton of possibles and one of those didn't win whilst the other was incredibly fortunate! I had Embassy Gardens in mind as another possible but his complete blowout in the RSA wasn't what I had in mind, even if he was strangely far from alone on that.
