Yes, but these fences are now 18 inches tall topped with 4 feet of spruce, it’s not impossible to kick your way through most of these and still run well.
For me the National is more about stamina than jumping now, easier fences means they travel quicker and can disrespect them…

If I was at a dog track and that was the market for a five runner race I'd be having words with the bookie, the Bowl could conceivably have another half dozen runners on top of that list...

Looked to have a real struggle to get in a few weeks back when the 100/1 to win today and GN was floating about. 33s still in a few places and I don't have stamina doubts like I would of last season about him. They've ridden him at 3m a couple of times last season as if they wasn't sure he'd stay but now they know he does and ridden more prominently I like him and feel there is more to come and well worth a pop in this(also my first dart but didn't think he'd get in at all tbh).​
 
Quick Wave looks a decent option, has stamina over decent tracks, only PU due to being hampered and losing a shoe. Looks well in considering the weight it's been carrying and 25's seems value. One to back when the ew offers are there but will have a morsel now

He's first reserve now and with Irish National defectors he should get a run. I love how he finishes out his races over 3m. Barring Cheltenham (where Im convinced he paid the price of a busy campaign) he has finished really strongly in 3 of his last 4 runs, doing all his best work late. I think he'll enjoy going further. Lack of C&D experience would be a slight concern, but I like that he's fresh for this and hasn't had a tough race at Cheltenham. I still think he's an improver and he's already well-in at the weights, so 10 stone and improvement over further could make him really well handicapped.
 
Velvet Elvis trained in Meath by Tom Gibney is still under the raider. Now a general 40s. Beat Mahler Mission in his PtP and has had an in/out career so far. Two nice prep runs this year including last week in Navan behind Any Second Now. Has other notable scalps. Minella Crooner back at Fairyhouse in February for one. Trainer says he’s definitely coming here.

A weight of 10-6. Ideal for Aintree.

Anyone remember how many places bookies paid on the day last year for the national. I have a few that I fancy placing but 5 places currently - debating whether to wait for 7/8 places or just crack on.
 
Am I mad for thinking The Big Breakaway has a lovely profile for this?

Well off the pace looking at the race this year, but he hits near enough every trend you want?
