2022 Triumph Hurdle

Fil Dor's current odds 6s best price can only be judged on each of his runs (3 to date) he is beating the best of what we have seen across the Irish sea so what if this lightly raced showed further improvement what price should it be if that were the case, 6s may look a steal in time.

I get the point, we can only judge him on what he's done so far, and you could argue he's done more than some shorter priced horses for other races, but this is the Triumph Hurdle. Willie hasn't played any of his cards yet. Admittedly Fil Dor has probably done more than some shorter priced horses in other races, so on that basis 6/1 (although 6's has now gone) could be viewed as an OK price, but it's not as if he's done it with the minimum of fuss over the weekend. He had to actual knuckle down, which can be viewed as a positive, I guess, but I'd liked him to have shown a little bit more class (i.e. travelling a bit better).

It may well have done him good to 'have a race' rather than coast along, as he did seem to be doing some good work very very late on towards the line, and highly likely a stiff track like Cheltenham will play to his advantage as well.

I can understand the Willie not playing his cards yet as being a big deal in the novice hurdles but his record in this is not comparable (would be even worse but for Goshen) I have seen this comment more than once now from different posters but I am not sure there is much substance or justification in it. Hendo for example has a better record in this race has he played his cards yet might be more apt on this particular occasion imo

Just checked Henderson’s last 4 Triumph winners and he didn’t start any of them off before December.

Agree with this. Think if Willie more inclined to keep a horse back a season and go novice hurdling if he knows it’s high quality. Also his MO for this race in recent years seems to be that they’ll probably only have one run in late jan or feb by which time the antepost market will be a lot better formed.

I drew the same conclusion as this, and thought there were only positives to take out of the race.

We'll find out in time the calibre of opposition he'll face, but he's done all the right things so far, and it's for others to worry about whether they can reach the same benchmark.

I have one of the early big price vouchers so I want to be optimistic, and he's in the range you'd want a potential winner to be in at this stage, but I expect we may still see better than Fil Dor for the race. I think he's 5 or 6lbs behind where both Quilixios and Zanahiyr were at the same stage, and the latter definitely put in a better performance in the same race last year. I do think he might just hit a 140's RPR for Saturday though, and very few winners of the Triumph will have done that by November.

I always like to see my novices/juveniles have to put their head down early in their careers as I think it helps massively when it comes to the business end of the season. Some horses won’t need to as they’ll be so much better than the opposition but for me I’d rather see what’s under the bonnet when push comes to shove.

In the case of Fil Dor, it’s good to see him have a bit of a battle, even though I think it was more comfortable than it looked. He’s a worthy favourite but the current price is rancid and they’ll be more challengers come March that have not even made the track yet.

The Future Champions race next month is a hot one, a few known horses and a few of the potential stars we have already unearthed. The one catching my eye is Olympic Man, he's had a couple of runs in France without winning and will still be 4 by the time the festival rolls around. The initial entry to me tells me that they hold him in high enough regard to take on the best (not that I think he will run here), with the fact he's French bred, will be 4 at the fez etc, the Mullins factor...could this one potentially be a Triumph horse of his? I'm doing a spot of fishing on here to get some opinions before I request any prices (hopefully not to tell me he's ineligible like one time I thought I'd found a good one :beaten:).

He is 4 now Lbur
which means he will be 5 on the 1st January
Triumph is for 4 year old horses

I know it's for 4 year olds, I just assumed that the 28th April 2017 is his birthday and therefore he'd be OK? I'm really not clued up when it comes to age restricted criteria :grumpy:

All horses in the Northern hemisphere have a 1st Jan age change - all before their real birthday.

Champion Green has an entry in the juvenile hurdle at Cork at the weekend. I believe this is the one JO'B hopes is his Triumph horse for JP. 90 rated after four runs on the flat, where he looked useful.

Iberique du Seuil is also entered in the same race, although I suspect Elliott will be starting to work on his mark and may not want to be winning.

Gordon confirmed that IDS had small issues prior to his first two races so expect a much better showing next time.

IDS is 25/1 any race with Hills, it could be an early Christmas present.

I bought into the hype went in at 33s for the Triumph before he ran, written it off but at 66s if anyone hasn’t played that’s probably a price to take now.
The any race 25s looks OK but he only has two realistic options and although the Boodles is the more likely option if he were to show a marked improvement on he previous two runs as Elliott suggests then he could still be Triumph runner.
If you believe then I’d probably split stakes…

Missed this. What did Elliot say?
