2022 Gold Cup

Sounded very much to me that if he were to win here today then that's the reason to move on to the ladbrokes trophy

There are lots of soft and soft/hvy runs though, so it wouldn't be enough to put me off.

I'm expecting EDR to win well. Conflated is no mug - he went off fav for the Kerry National so lots of people probably thought he'd win that day. He arrives fit and hopefully runs to his mark with EDR putting him in his place.
 
Eklat De Rire lovely big jumps there, out to his left on a fair few too. Seemed to spend the early stages taking in the scenery, did it again in front of the stands and made a slight mistake. Good bit of improvement there if they can get him to keep his mind on the job! Encouraging stuff.
 
A proper stayer isn't he.

I bet he'll come on a lot for that run as well
 
Lovely economical jumping from EDR there beating a race fit Conflated, happy enough with that! Onwards and upwards, looks like he would improve for a stronger gallop also.

Agree, he is a proper Stayer. Is he a GC horse on quickish Spring ground though? I have my doubts. Was running a big race until toppling over in RSA so it's debatable. Could definitely see him going Ladbrokes Trophy but it'll have to be on the Soft side I think. I certainly wouldn't he taking AP prices about him for Newbury. Wait until he's declared personally.

….plenty of Oddschecker blue for Eklat de Rire after that win. 365 look the biggest at 40-1, most are now 33s with Hills cutting to 25-1.

33's about right I'd say at this stage. Win the Hennessy.......... different story!

I topped up a whopping fiver on him at 50's earlier today and two minutes later he was 40s with 365 so they haven't yet cut the price after the run so I expect the 40s wont last long.

How do you know he wont be better on Spring ground?

Point of order, he didn't actually topple over, he landed badly and unseated. You could probably debate if it was a soft unseat or not if you wanted.

I know a lot of people like these double prices but they rarely seem particularly good value to me as for that to be value EDR would need to be less than 8/1 for the Ladbrokes and if he won that then less than 12s for the Gold Cup. The Skybet double becomes less attractive still if you can bet for both races separately with cash out.

Obvs if 365 put EDR in at say 6/1 for the Ladbrokes then the special double would be more appealing but I think that would be pretty short

I agree that they are rarely value but this one won't be a millions miles out, imo. He should be single figures for the Hennessy when they price him up.

I don't see them raising his mark based on that performance, if they did then maybe a pound or two at most. You'd have to think Henry sends him to Newbury just to try and keep all 3 of them split up this season.
 
Happy with today - beating race fit rivals easily is the bare minimum with a view to this, although I don't think we learnt a huge amount today with a view to this. Can't wait to see EDR pitched in the deep end somewhere. We'll know then what we have on our hands
 
I remember when Colin Tizzard had a few Gold Cup horses and looks fairly stacked. Well, Henry De Bromhead has a Full House at the moment

- He has 1st and 2nd from last year
- Ekalt De Rire
- Envoi Allen

I know its a long season and we could have injuries, but as it stands.... he has some fire power in this division
