Yes I should have trusted Venetia's judgment over the distance. Are we seeing the next generation of Gold Cup contenders? (Stattler yesterday)
 
Surprised to see very little chat around Farouk, went far better than I thought he would, appears to have left any RH tendencies well behind him from his early days. He was going as well as the winner two out and would of been very interesting to see how he’d of challenge the winner.

I think he had things in his favour with ground and boosted from stattler form. had a late punt on him on that basis and agree he was being given a confident ride by the time he fell..but often think a late fall is because horse is more tired than appears.

will be a good price to follow next season

I have heard a surprising number of people come out in defence of Nicholls citing animal welfare matters. I must admit, I didn't for one second think it was a welfare related decision. I'd felt it was because it wasn't BMG's preferred going which lessened his chances of winning, on top of him not wanting to be there really anyway.

Yet it wasn't an animal welfare issue for all the other horses that run throughout the day. My first thought would be - who are those citing welfare issues, and what are their motives? Usually, it comes from those who would rather see racing, and betting for that matter, banned.
 
L'Homme Presse and BMG would have eaten them alive on that evidence.

The trainers are doing nothing to help their sport when they make comments like that.
 
Sorry, Nicholls is talking shite once again. He openly said months ago he didn't fancy Cheltenham for BMG and wanted to wait for Aintree. I bet he was delighted he had a cracking little excuse.
His pathetic rant at the course clerk was ridiculous. IMO it didn't matter an inch if he watered the night before or not, it was gonna be heavy.

Agree he should not have ranted at the clerk of course, but as a BMG backer, I could easily understand him taking him out.
He knew he could not win in those conditions and was absolutely right imo.
 
Yeah, I've not seen any comments about the clerk or horse welfare or anything like that so can't comment on those issues, but it was atrocious at Cheltenham on Wednesday and any trainer who withdrew their horses from those conditions as they deteriorated had my support if they felt it was right (whether I had money on them or not). You only have to look at how horrendous the Coral Cup was to see that a maximum of 5 horses per race went in the going...
 
Wednesday seems to have been barmy because Thursday on the new course seemed proper good jumping ground. I wonder whether Nicholls and Henderson were a bit rash in making those withdrawals for their Thursday runners then, all very spur of the moment. Today, Friday, could be riding good to soft.

Definitely. Fusil Raffles and Simply The Betts would have had a good chance in the Plate.
