2017 Cheltenham JLT

Some good news for American Tom backers - Ricci quoted today that the horse is physically fine after heavy fall and to put a line through its last run

I think I'd rather have him as a non runner and guarentee Yorkhill for this race :p

Same Kev... Ricci seems keen on getting revenge on altior though - more comments to that effect with Min today. Hard to see how min wouldn't be in the arkle and Yorkhill not in JLT... If you want cover the reverse in a double with paddy's is 442/1

Next time Harry Kane scores I'll put the £2 free bet on it :highly_amused:

OO Seven back over 2.5 m tomorrow at Huntingdon. 3m was too much for him LTO.
My 16/1 for the JLT is still live..... for now!

Blue across the board for Yorkhill this evening... in to 2/1 on the exchanges too :)

Ryanh97,

6/1

on 25/8/16 my post on the ante post thread was:

I've been nibbling at:

Yorkhill 6/1 JLT
Alpha Des Obeaux 8/1 RSA
Champers On Ice 25/1 NH Chase

The dream is still alive.

Politologue looked very good!
Buveur Dair aside, have we seen a better UK challenger for the JLT? I guess we'll know more after the weekend...

Decided to have a look at this market again because of my position on Yorkhill. I am relying on horses earlier in the week, so a lot of risk involved here, but Altior OR Min winning the Arkle would see me waiting on at least 100 pts for a Yorkhill win alone.

With that in mind, I feel I have sufficent points to play with to have more than one horse running for me. (Not scientific but we are gambling/punting after all)...

Looking at the market I can see Buveur D'air is now a single figure second fav and I am happy enough to just skip straight over him. Nothing against what he has achieved but at the price he is with some uncertainty about the target he doesn't appeal at all.

Next is Whisper, who I did put 1 pt ew on at 16/1 a few weeks back. Some after that won't run (like Altior and Identity Thief) but without going through all the runners, the one I am really interested in is now Politologue.

HAd a read back through and we've not really mentioned him other than Leman's comment above and afer watching his last two runs that surprises me a little. I replied at the time saying I was slightly worried about Nicholls 'minding' him this year, as he is one for the future. However, I don't think that means he would MISS the festival, I think it means he won't run in the RSA. The actual report was this:

"There's no need to be going too far at this stage. Two-mile-four, five or six is about as far as he needs to go, as he's got plenty of pace," said the champion trainer.

"It's unlikely he'll go for the RSA, but he could go for the two-and-a-half-mile race (JLT). I'm not that keen on going three miles yet, but he will get three miles, no doubt about it.

"I'm really focussing on next season and just minding him for that. These horses are for the future for us and we do not want to over-face them this year."

Owner John Hales was equally positive regarding what the future may hold for his grey.

He said: "I said when he won at Haydock that was the finest first round of novice jumping from any that I have ever had, including One Man. This one is hopefully a bit special."

Little bit of 14/1 available, and I think I will be adding this one to my book... nothing major, 1 pt each way... but you can't NOT be impressed and I haven't seen anything better on this side of the sea yet?

Negative would be his run at Cheltenham at the festival, but you can forgive that - looks to have massively improved for a fence and in the coral cup, he hit one of the hurdles when in contention and was off the bridle after that mistake and never got back in to the race.

Interested to know what you think.... at the same price there is Coney Island over the sea who has arguably better form... so before I do take the plunge.... let me know...

Great price at 4s in a about 3 multiples but praying he wins nonetheless.

Kev - I like the strategy, with you almost certainly having the Arkle in the bag you might aswell have a little cover bet on something at a price and I agree with Politologue, its impossible to not be impressed by him.

Great position to be in Kev.. i think its fair to say you have the Arkle covered.. however, id be tempted to wait until the day in terms of what to cover Yorkhill with. You could find yourselves backing 2 as covers now, and only 1 makes it etc.

I think come the day, Yorkhill will be much shorter (sub 6/4) and thus the opposition prices may well be bigger in places than they are now, and you'll be guaranteed a run, see what the market is saying on the day etc

In all honesty i dont even think you need a cover.. i'm on Yorkhill at 5/1 too and have a few multis. I actually have him as the festival banker. I think his main threat is whether he gets diverted elsewhere... which if is a concern for you then you have to look ante post

I was also hopeful on American Tom... i had that as a cover/Yorkhill non runner bet initially but hard to know what to make of him now.

Yorkhill entered up at Leopardstown in the 14:10 Novice Chase over 2m3f this Sunday.

That'll do nicely before tackling the JLT :encouragement:

Same race that Killultagh Vic won last season before being cut across the board for the JLT.

Now that is EXCELLENT regarding the target. I'm 100% certain I read about Mullins sending his house in that exact race being his JLT horse! I actually think I read it on this forum about this time last year, certainly before I joined. Id live to find it again but I'm sure this entry has been a factor in yorkhill shortening earlier in the week for the JLT.

I'm beaming .... still has to turn up, jump well, win, get to Chelt sound, run around, not fall and win .... but still, baby steps and this is a huuuuge positive. I do however remember taking KV at 12s at this stage and he was 2/1 after the race haha

Last 5 years. All pointers for the JLT for Mullins, happy days :D

2015 - Vautour - won JLT
2014 - Djakadam - fell in the JLT
