2017 Cheltenham JLT

Totally agree, If I was Wylie and Willie I would rather pitch Yorkhill in quite an open looking race where he would go off favourite with a high chance of winning. Rather than going against altior.

American Toms e/w price still looking good to anyone @ 10s? Nearly double the price of Buveur D'air

I agree and expect the JLT to be his race and I want it to be his race from my antepost point of view but I couldn't say for certain that it will end up that way with Willie Mullins.

Still think it'll come down to Ruby and who he deems to be the best 2 out of the 3 in Min, Yorkhill, American Tom. Although 2 miles would seem to suit the fomer and 2m4 the latter 2 most I think any of the 3 would be likely players in either race.

Yeah I think we covered this previously.

A lot depends on American Tom being more likely to win the JLT than Min is 'reversing the form' with Altior, or not.

I think they'd think yorkhill would beat min over 2m but Ruby does tend to keep to keep Ricci happy and 'snubbing' Min for Yorkhill, even if he won the JLT on American Tom doesn't quite sit right in my gut. Especially as Wylie wouldn't be bothered which race was won!

To sum up, I think the only way Yorkhill isn't going to rub in the JLT, is if all connections consider American Tom am absolute good thing in the JLT ... as in, have a better chance than Yorkhill.

I think I can put a line through American Tom after that performance. Well beaten when he fell.

To be fair I can't believe some plan went off at 7/1, thought he was running well when came down at Cheltenham and at worse was going to come 2nd today, good performance none the less and possibly another to enter calculations

American Tom - The earlier mistake seem to disrupt him and he dropped to back marker. I thought Ruby was going to pull him up before that very bad fall (looked it anyway, good to see horse and jockey up). I wouldn't be surprised to hear AT has picked up some sort of injury from the earlier mistake. It definitely affected him anyway.

I think that race will now set the Ruby rides in stone - Min Arkle and Yorkhill JLT

I'd be surprised if he went to Cheltenham Mayo.

Me too. I'll be surprised if he doesn't have some sort of injury

That figures - I think it was Istabraq on here who said he avoids horses who jump to right or left as it can be indicative of an underlying injury/ weakness rather than need to go other way around.

Found to be coughing and has a lung infection. Don't know how long these things take to clear up but can't afford to be missing too much work this time of year..

Wow. Willie could do without the sniffles in the yard. are Ricci horses all in same part of the stable ? About four years ago there was a story about horses in one yard running poorly at the fez.

No reason they'd rush AT back for the festival, they've waited a while to get him right as it is. Unfortunate but agree with others, Yorkhill for this becomes such an obvious target.

No evidence others are running poorly Mayo ?

Seen this elsewhere - Apparently Buveur D’Air could be back over hurdles – Aidan Coleman told Seven Barrows he was far from impressed with him over fences at Warwick over the weekend.

From Nickys Blog

Some folk were disappointed with BUVEUR D’AIR at Warwick on New Year’s Eve but he got a bump by a horse on his inside turning for home which wasn’t very pleasant and then he got a little tired approaching the last two. He didn’t have a hard race the time before at Haydock but he probably put a fair bit into this one therefore he may have needed it fitness-wise. He’s absolutely fine and we’ll probably look at the G1 Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown on February 4th to try him over 2m4f and see how he gets on.

and WHISPER

The horses have been in good form and we started the New Year with WHISPER battling really bravely to win the Dipper at Cheltenham and it’s now clear that he’s a very good Novice Chaser. I think he gets on really well with Davy Russell as he just lets the horse do the work; it’s a case of nobody bullying anybody and they are great together. He was able to just warm into the race, find his feet and get his jumping together and the further he went the more confident he became and both horse and jockey are a great combination. He has come out of the race bouncing and I think 2m4f will be his trip so the JLT would obviously have to come into consideration. To be honest I’ll be surprised if he wants 3m. I have no idea where we go next as I’ve only discussed it briefly with Davy and Dai Walters after the race and the question is does he really need to run again before the Festival? He doesn’t really but if the right race came up, we’d have a look but I’m not pressing for it and I’d be happy to save him until March.

Yorkhill shortened right up to 11/4 with betfair

Some good news for American Tom backers - Ricci quoted today that the horse is physically fine after heavy fall and to put a line through its last run

I think I'd rather have him as a non runner and guarentee Yorkhill for this race :p
