2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup

I think a low 170's figure will be good enough to win but I think Native River is far more likely than Djakadam to produce that figure. It wouldn't surprise me if at least two others were also good enough to sink the each-way money.

Ruby

Djakadam has been placed in two Gold Cups and I hope he’s not a Go Ballistic. I hope he’s more of The Fellow.

There are plenty of dangers. Outlander is obviously a good horse but the trip will be a question mark for him; Sizing John is very much an improving horse; and Champagne West was a very impressive winner of the Thyestes.

But whatever way you look at it, the form will say the two Colin Tizzard horses have the strongest line of form

Cue Card has been a very good horse throughout his career and he was travelling well at the third last when he fell in last year’s Gold Cup.

To me he was lacklustre in this season’s King George - I don’t think he beat the other opposition far enough to suggest he ran a true race - but I’d give him a shout.

Native River is massively improving. From being placed in last year’s four-miler he has improved with every run. He seems a horse going very much in the right direction.

Does Pricewise still move markets ...

Segal writes off the top 5 in the market. Champagne West for him

You get the impression Ruby doesn't like Djakadam. I can't remember him ever being bullish about him.

Done my own trends /stats thingy . N. river 1st
S.john 2nd
O/landr 3rd. I.M.O < f.w.i.w.!!. . close between s.j & o/l but ithink S.j better track record.

Sizing John is pretty difficult to assess because of the stamina doubt. If he ticked that box you would have to give him every chance. Even without Thistlecrack you would have to think they are going to pretty hard from the front and this (unlike the Irish Gold Cup) will be a proper stamina test.

I can't have Cue Card. He was a stone below in the King George and despite the wide margin win last time I thought it looked hard work for him. More and more I am questioning what he actually achieved at Haydock. For me Haydock throws up many freak results and perhaps the Coneygree he beat was actually a pale shadow of the 2015 version?

Native River is the most solid one but after him the places are up for grabs.

and a different one last night

Cue Card the Gold Cup tip of @sevenbarrows & @samtwiston. Tom Segal opts for More Of That. #CheltenhamPreview @HungerfordArms

Loved seeing Djakadam pulling Ruby's arms off after the racecourse gallop @ Leopardstown, they go a fair clip in the GC and Djakadam doesn't look like he will be found out for pace that's for sure, not that he has ever been questioned before about his pace, winning 2 John Durkans and finishing twice in the GC already, but it's always a positive.

Interestingly Gordon Elliott has said he doesn't think Outlander will stay!

I've mentioned Champagne West a couple of times for this, his Thyestes win has been franked several times now, looks a big price in the context of this years renewal

I have backed him myself , in a couple of L.15's, and then i read on a Trends/stats site - Every winner since 2000 last ran at - chelt , kempt, newbury or Leopardstown, . also in a grade 1 chase , last run in a handicap - 2/104 . but trends aren,t always right.

Is the Outlander / Empire of Dirt switcharoo worth looking at?

Elliott has been very, very vocal about EoD being a better GC shout and doesn't think Outlander will stay so might get put in the Ryanair (fell when fav over JLT C&D)..... 314/1 with BlackType (not a memeber there myself) without NRNB OR

210/1 NRNB with Lads is the next best of the 'bigger' bookies?

I've almost tempted myself... stranger things have happened

There's no harm done if they don't Kev. Not sure anyone will ever change O'Leary's mind

At least Elliott seems inclined to try doesn't he? A point each way will do.... Probably got more money coming back in Non runners that I will have in winnings :highly_amused:

I jumped straight on 20/1 with SJ when I saw them push him out.

Don Poli is out of the Gold Cup. Could we see a Empire Of Dirt switch?

Given GE won't shup up about how he thinks it's the race for him I'd expect so
