Well the last time he won it was in the jumpers bumper on the sand at Kempton.

The fact has to be that MTOY is just not quite G1 material! Beaten by Champange Fever, closely tied in with The Neew One at Christmas etc.... I guess (if I am being kind) if EVERYTHING went right in the prep all season, and EVERYTHING went right on the day, he could win this race at the festival... but 33/1 to me isn't as big as he should be now! IF he starts at single figures on the day I'll be getting my betfair 'lay' account in action again.

This horse has been too hyped up over many seasons! Very similar to The New One in terms of festival credentials... missing a season doesn't mean he'll have improved... he is exposed for this race and not good enough. I'd not be surprised to see Barry on IG rather than MTOY come this race.

MTOY has solid place claims but isnt good enough to win the Champ Hurdle unless a few fall on the day. I quite like the 33/1 ew then if he gets there lay off the win part of the bet and then keep your fingers crossed he can place and youve got yourself a nice 8.25/1 winner plus any money you make on the win lay (depending on the price). If he finishes unplaced then you might get enough from the lay on the win part to cover most of you place bet. A bit of a no brainer the way the market has shaped up and knowing that MTOY is going down this route, what can go wrong.... apart from injury, loss of form or a big price drift!! But apart from that!

Mullins stable tour confirmed that Annie P going CH route and playing it by ear with Faugheen....
We all know that Annie P could "pick up an injury/have an interrupted prep" etc.... and things could flip/flop, but worth noting...

“She’s in good order and all is well with her. She’ll be going down the Champion Hurdle route and we have the Morgiana Hurdle pencilled in as a possibility for her return.”

“He’s in good shape and his starting point will be either the Morgiana Hurdle or the Hatton’s Grace Hurdle. He won’t have any problem with two-and-a-half miles in the Hatton’s Grace if we point him in that direction. He’ll be one that we play by ear as the season progresses.”

Thanks for the update Leman. Where have you got his stable tour from?

Very pleased to hear this news, I know it can change but was what I was hoping and expecting to happen.
I just hope both can stay injury free as Annie especially has run into setbacks the last couple of seasons.

Annie CH Faugheen WH for my ante post would be sensational.

For the record I want them both in the CH but that's my head not my pocket.

Billy I think you're right in what you've said ... I won't be doing it myself but I think that would make money. I fear for my accounts if I start just trying to beat SP and lay things off.

Yes its not a tactic id use too often but coz the CH market will have so much liquidity ive given it a go

I'm getting tempted by the 16s for Yorkhill for the CH. My position on Yorkhill at the moment is that I've been pretty convinced he'll go for the JLT. (Min and Altior being reason enough to not go for the Arkle). Ruby saying straight after his Neptune success that he'd win the Arkle is a negative for Min but regardless, is quite a clear indication that Ruby wants him to go over a fence.

Mullins on the other hand, has said that he thinks he'd be a CH contender and a superb hurdler... I can see why Mullins would want another arrow to fire at the CH, with the added gusto of wanting to make sure Apples Jade doesn't win it! He had the 1-2-3 a last year and the 1-3 this year so has previous in having multiple runners (with chances).

Wylie has said about the horse,he could be a Gold Cup horse in the future... (loads of quotes in here about target, including CH and GC) .... http://www.sportinglife.com/racing/report/708878/yorkhill-too-strong-for-yanworth-in-neptune-at-c_3

Reading between the lines, it seems Wylie wants him to go chasing, to eventually be a Gold Cup horse but has a lot of respect and listens to where Mullins thinks they're best placed to win. Ruby's views are much clearer, as he already feels he has Faugheen or Annie for the CH so no need to have Yorkhill in that race...

I am torn between missing a price and having 'dead money' before November.... I suppose even if they go chasing, they could revert back? Ah fudge it, small each way going on. Not happy with myself though!

I would of been tempted to wait a little loaf, if you think back to last year most big books go NRNB on the championship races about this time of year and I remember B365 didn't trim the prices all that much.. How bad would you feel if you put your bet on and a few days later it's NRNB.. Happened to me last year!!

Don't think anyone will go nrnb in October, will they?

The earliest I remember was Ladbrokes doing it at Christmas, and Bet Victor doing it all year as non runner free bet.

Sooner the better :grumpy:
Oh Faugheen. Oh KV. :p

Ah how I miss that concession! Can't ever see any bookie doing something like that again :(

I've already got enough on ante-post and we aren't even in November yet.... I need absolutely no encouragement :highly_amused:

I blame this forum for the increase in the amount of antepost bets i've placed already! ;)

Absolutely...far too many people putting excellent cases together. :sorrow: Damn you all

So after reading the Ricci blog, I am no clearer to the Annie v Faugheen answer regarding this race?
It would appear AP was being trained for the Mares or World Hurdle last year I think and then stepped in when Faugheen got injured, Ricci says "suspect we will train her and Faugheen along the same lines we intended to last year and God willing if they are both fit and well in March we will have a decision to make. Hopefully she will be ready for the Morgiana or the Hattons Grace to start her season off, with Faugheen going to the one of those that she doesn’t"

You got a link to that blog paz?
I think she was trained for the mares... Mullins definitely ruled out the World Hurdle as it would have been too big a target with the prep she had, had.

Faugheen CH and Annie Mares would be the two easiest group 1s they could pick up with these 2 horses... can't rule it out, as disappointing as that would be.

I love reading what connections say about their good horses and especially their targets but I can't imagine hearing anything from Ricci that will be worthwhile at this time of year.
As we know he has form of misleading people right up to the festival itself so I'd treat nothing he says seriously.
Great to have the engagement, but nothing useful can come from it and I'm certainly not going to hang my betting strategy around it....
