Champion Hurdle
I'll run three in the Stan James Champion Hurdle, Brain Power, Buveur D'Air and My Tent Or Yours and it's just a question of where we'll finish them off now. Nothing will run beforehand and there are various gallops planned.

Because he didn't run at Sandown I was toying with running Brain Power at Kempton on Saturday but decided against it. He worked well on Monday and Buveur D'Air did likewise on Tuesday. Brain Power cantered around Newbury after the Betfair Hurdle.

My Tent Or Yours is in good shape, really good shape. He was second in the Champion last year and has been something of a forgotten horse. He wasn't quite sparkling earlier in the season and will go to Kempton on Tuesday for a gallop.

He'll love the Champion. He wants a really fast-run race, which he hasn't had it all year. We should have made the running in the Haydock race which turned into a silly affair.

It's so far so good with them, they're all intended runners. Barry Geraghty hasn't given me any indication what he's going to ride, I haven't spoken to him about it.

I hope David Mullins will ride Brain Power. I'd imagine it's between Buveur D'Air and Yanworth for Barry, or he could surprise you and ride Tent.

I should think there's a possibility Noel Fehily would ride Buveur D'Air if Barry didn't. He rode him all last season and Barry virtually sat on him for the first time in his life at Sandown last time.

The good thing is it isn't a problem from my point of view. If Barry rides our horse, great, if he doesn't I don't think we have a problem.

I think Brain Power has done everything right and looks really well, he's been great, the one thing you could say is there is a ground situation here.

Buveur D'Air would love it soft and Brain Power good. We all know on day one it's going to be good to soft or softer. The softer the better for Buveur D'Air - that helps him and goes against Brain Power and My Tent Or Yours.

If you take it strictly on what he did at Sandown, Buveur D'Air wouldn't deserve to be favourite for a Champion Hurdle. He beat Rayvin Black and Irving who didn't' really perform there or at Wincanton the next time where they were beaten even further. We've just got to do our own thing though.

I've always thought he was a Champion Hurdle horse even though he was very good over fences. The switch back wasn't entirely down to what was happening with the Champion Hurdle.

Yes Annie Power missing out made you think but I said to Barry before racing at Cheltehham that day that this horse needs to come back into the Champion whatever happens to Faugheen tomorrow.

Half an hour later Faugheen was out of the Sunday race but I was adamant before that my horse had to come back into a Champion Hurdle.

We've seen horses come through handicaps and look very good but it's always a big gap. However, rated 163 Brain Power has nowhere else to go. He has a very high cruising speed, you need that, you have to be able to travel through the race, and I'd expect they'll go a good gallop with The New One and Petit Mouchoir in the field.

I took the 50s on offer for MTOY more than a month back - mainly out of sentiment, so this is good to hear - maybe a place isn't out of the question after all.

21/1 VVM (CH) - Limini (mares)
32/1 Limini (CH) - VVM (mares)

get them all covered:triumphant: NRNB

Kev,

Do you think VVM or Limini would have a solid chance of winning the CH?

Kev,

Do you think VVM or Limini would have a solid chance of winning the CH?

Well.... I was shocked at the first shows in the Christmas Hurdle when they priced up Yanworth and VVM. Yanworth was quite a bit shorter (but I think Yanworth was fav because of the uncertainty about VVM running - and obviously she went up to 3m). I would have expected VVM to go off fav in that race, had she turned up.

I'd have doubts about both, sure... Limini has tried to beat the boys before and not managed it, and is held by BVD and PM on last years novice form, HOWEVER, she has better Cheltenham form and based on today you'd think she has improved.

VVM does have grade 1, 2 mile, championship winning form. She'd be an easy ride, and I'd expect her to have a bit more of a chance... although I would be a bit of a sucker for stable confidence. If they but Limini in and we're bullish I'd have to respect it?

So short answer, I think either would have 'A' chance, which I can say for all the others, so they (either horse) deserve to be there... certainly doesn't make the race any easier to work out though.

I guess because I decided I fancied Yanworth and would have backed VVM to beat him at Christmas, by default, on price, I have to back VVM now.

Gotcha, thanks Kev for the insight. I have backed heavily for VVM for mares and whats left of the good multiples of thistle are reliant upon VVM in mares so i have to cover and it makes perfect sense for the double as I think AJ is held. Lets dance maybe an issue. So up in the air

I don't think there is any chance they'll waste Let's Dance's experience as a second season novice this year... so I wouldn't be worried about her in the OLGB Mares race at all

Love this.

Now only 40/1.

He is my only CH bet @ 50/1 I done 5pts E/W, so fingers crossed he can run a big one, at them odds a place is more than sufficient.

Anybody know when the cut off point for supplementing a horse for champion hurdle is?

Hendo on BVD'air

"He is perfectly happy on good to soft but if it dries out it goes against him and he would love it soft. If you take it strictly on what he did at Sandown he shouldn’t be favourite for the Champion as he beat Rayvin Black and Irving and they got beaten even further at Wincanton but we just have to do our own thing. We always though he was a Champion Hurdle horse and he has been very good over fences but before Annie Power and Faugheen was ruled out I said to Barry (Geraghty) this horse needs to go back hurdling. We just thought he had a little more to give over hurdles"

You would have to be MENTAL to back him now, before you know the ground conditions? MENTAL. If it is soft, then fair enough, but even then that suits Yanworth too! More-so even?

Who fancies BVD ... ? I've pinned my colours to the Yanworth mast (strictly between the two this is...) ... so let's work out the match bet.... who beats who? BVD or Yan ... in the CH....

The McManus second string can get overlooked in the market. ( See Kilfenora)

Geraghty factor will be a big as when AP was riding but whatever one Barry doesn't ride will probably be the value...and I say that as someone who has profited from making Bazza my main man at the festival.

And the third string (MTOY) definitely gets overlooked ;-)

Mullins told the Irish Independent: "I haven't really discussed it with the owner but it (the Champion Hurdle) is certainly something that has to be thought about.

"She has lots of pace in the way that she works.

"Two miles or two and a half miles really makes no difference.

"I was delighted with how Wednesday worked out."

And in keeping with that VVM has drifted like a barge on the exchanges for this race, now 26/1, Limini in to 9/1.

Also, not one for starting rumours, so genuine question, is Buveur D'air OK? Slight drift on the exchanges, a few bookies have dropped him out 1/2 a point or more too?

Maybe an indication that BG is favouring Yanworth? No idea though... not my area if expertise

If they do supplement Limini I'd take that as a huge positive on her chances. Must be better than VVM over two miles then, and VVM isn't too far off the required standard here even if you don't fancy her?
