2016 Ryanair

Champagne Fever came within the length of a Monte Cristo No' 5 of achieving that feat....

Road to Riches - could he turn up here as suggested by Lydia with the 2 Dons heading up the Gigginstown Gold Cup challenge. Tend to agree with her that 16/1 would be a big price even if Vautour ends up in this ?

I think it would be daft not to give RTR another shot for a horse to come pretty close last year on ground a tad softer than he prefered. You also have to remember it was his first run at the venue so may have more experience this year.

I think Road to Riches has to go for the Gold Cup after his close 3rd last year.
He was running in 3m novice races as a hurdler 3 years ago so in my opinion it would be a mistake to drop back in trip.

Many have said the Ryanair is a weak renewal this year, whilst I think (and my AP voucher very much hopes) Cue Card will be Gold Cup bound there is a chance he lands in this, throw in Al Ferof, Silviniaco Conti, Vroum Vroum Mag, Ptit Zig, Dynaste and maybe even Simonsig, it's a race full of talent with several multiple G1 winners

Ista - surely Cue Card goes for the gold cup. The £1m bonus will make certain of that.

Never thought of SC for this. Only quoted by Stan James but possible.

Has there ever been a year where the top 5 in the Gold Cup betting could just as easily be the same top 5 in the betting for the Ryanair!

For sure, I just used the horse as a guide to the quality that could line up where the consensus is that 2016 could be a weak renewal.
He routed the oppo in 2013 in the race but of course he's Gold Cup bound...

Ista & Love Racing - I agree RTR deserves another crack but with the 2 Dons both around 5/1 for the Gold Cup and the exchange betting & paddy power odds suggesting Cossack won't be in the Ryanair and no way Poli will be in the Ryanair, isn't there a chance O'leary will want something in his own race rather than have 3 in the Gold Cup. Of the 3 RTR seems most likely with his pipe opener being over 2 miles 4f. Just think a little investment now might look good come March ?

Are Wounded Warrior and Very Wood both out for the season? Valseur Lido could run in this for Gigginstown aswell as RTR or instead off. I think it's more likely RTR will go here unless something happens to one of the Dons, but who knows, look what happened last year with the two horses mentioned at the start of this post, they switched their targets near the last minute so they may think of putting Don Cossack in here and leave RTR in the Gold Cup??

I was thinking Valseur Lido for the Ryannair too. though any stamina questions (barely saw out the JLT trip behind Vatour) were quashed when beating Don Poli, Apache Stronghold and co at Punchestown.

They also have Sir Des Champs and being so strong handed already in the Gold Cup they may choose to re-route this one to the Ryannair....

From Nov Stable tour

Meade also revealed Very Wood, not seen since disappointing when favourite for Cheltenham's National Hunt Chase, remains on the sidelines.

"He knocked a joint when we were getting him ready for the Irish National. It got infected and it's taking a long time to get it right," he said.

"He's a horse with plenty of ability, but his form was in and out last season and he can be a bit of a funny character. Training him can be as much mental as physical."

Wounded Warrior, placed at Cheltenham and Punchestown last spring, was due to be part of the contingent strutting their stuff, but has suffered a setback.

"He was cast in his box last week," said the trainer.

"He's a huge horse and I've always thought the world of him. He could improve a lot and he wants a trip on soft ground.

"I tried to get Michael (O'Leary) to enter him in the Hennessy at Newbury, but he wouldn't have it. He's a really good horse."

and another ( not giggy)

Apache Stronghold had been pencilled for Saturday's Powers Irish Whiskey Chase at Down Royal before suffering a setback.

Meade said: "He was due to run at Down Royal, but he gave himself a wrap and missed about a week.

"It's quite possible that he could look at the the Morris Oil or the Durkan, but ideally I don't want to run him and Road To Riches in the same race.

"I think he gets three miles and we'll probably run him in the Lexus and see how he gets on. Down the road the Ryanair Chase is an obvious target at Cheltenham, if he shows us he's not getting the three miles.

"Paul (Carberry) came back in after he finished second at Cheltenham last season and said he ran very well, but the other fellow (Vautour) is a machine."

I think if Coneygree was running Don Poli would have struggled in the GC where the pace out in front would catch him out. This is now probably his best shot at the race, even though I still don't fancy him to win.

@Napchecker: #NoelMeade says Apache Stronghold likely to miss this season (splint trouble) while Very Wood's (damaged joint) career is in severe doubt.

:sorrow:

Wounded Warrior declared for Kinloch Brae tomorrow along with Don Cossack.

Would love to see smad place in this line up, think he's clearly out of his depth in the gold cup and wouldn't even place, whereas he has a great shout to win this, surely the yard would rather a festival winner than a forlorn shot at the gold cup, smad place aside i've punted Al Ferof ante post to pick the ryan air up, 3 years finished 3rd in king george and seems to be thriving in his new yard for the skeltons

Might have your wish GJT

Wayne: "In terms of the Gold Cup I'd say he might just come up a little bit short. The Ryanair's an option at Cheltenham and he might still run again before then."

Did he advise that on the morning line today? Must have missed that if he did, thanks for letting me know, for me the ryan air would be the logical race for him and could turn out to be one of the better races of the festival with the potential quality of this field

Yep on the morning line

I think this race revolves around the participation of Vautour, some trainers will look at this as an alternative on the assumption Vautour will run elsewhere, if it looks certain that he runs in this I think many would avoid the race.
