2016 Gold Cup

Interesting that last night ruby seemed more convinced by Djakadams chances and said he will be bending willies ear to run Vautour in the ryan air, suppose would save him from choosing and give him an extra chance of a winner....

Interesting indeed, I did mention quite a few weeks ago that if they both run in this I wouldn't be sure Ruby would choose Vautour over Djakadam. If Ruby is bending Willies ear though he should be talking QM, not Ryanair, better chance in either though than the Gold cup in my view, also it sounds like Djakadam is pleasing them

Both he and AP McCoy were convinced un de scaux has won the QM as long as he stands up, don't believe ruby would want to choose between them two either, by putting Vautour into the ryan air it solves all his problems, with the recent dip in willies yard i'd be more inclined to run Vautour in the ryan air have the win and then if he really is a gold cup horse then go there next year, the horse is only 7 years old after all, might be better over further with another year under his belt

Thinking about it it's actually quite amazing and we forget the Djakadam came 2nd last year but the horse was only 6 years old, now 7 he's still not probably in his prime yet as a chaser, should be favourite it my books

He would be only for the fall. If any horse is going to win easily it is him in my opinion. Does anyone have fallers insurance betting antepost ?

As I'm firmly entrenched in the Vautour camp, I've spent the day reeling from Ruby's comments last night. There can be no positive taken for Vautour, even the reverse forecast line hardly says Vautour's a good thing.

Two thing's I've done today. First, I've taken Don Cossack @ 4/5 in a match bet with Vautour. Second, I've requested a quote for Ruby choosing Djakadam over Vautour.

Not bad thinking SS, Vautours only attempt at 3miles saw him outstayed by an erstwhile non stayer, whilst the only other highly regarded horse in the race fell, so Vautour could well have been third and then all talk of him going for the Gold cup would have ended. I think the camp are having second thoughts about targets with the shock of losing what they must have viewed as a guaranteed major win with the absence of Faugheen, so they may want to cover more options, Vautour should go for a shorter trip in my view because nothing he's shown guarantees he will get the trip in the blue riband, my preference would be the QM, I don't think UDS would get him off the bridle but I can understand why others would think differently, and I fully respect those views, they could be right, but we'll probably never find out

Also, I'm a bit troubled by Willie's quote regarding Vautour's training. He simply said he doesn't train the horses differently for the GC trip, instead choosing to train them the same and 'those who stay, stay, those who don't, don't.

I'd never knock Willie for obvious reasons, but I'd be amazed if Paul Nicholls did the same with Vautour.

Fairly sure I was the only Cue Card fan in here, is anyone else starting to believe after Tizzards comments this week ?

I hope he wins for you Ista and for the sake of another British Triple Crown winner.

I might just well sit back with my feet up and watch this race. Its gonna be a cracker!

I'm starting to believe CC can win it......and I never thought I'd be saying that!

Even though I think CC has a big shout of winning, but could the Tiz quote been deployed to scare away others to go for the Ryanair? He's obviously doing sometyhing right at home with his horses.

The noises are strong, Paddy B was quoted as saying another half mile and CC would have gone further clear in the King George, and Tizzard has gone into more detail on the extent of the breathing difficulties the horse had before last Summer.

I've never been confident but I am getting more hopeful by the day.
I just wonder if the horse had been trained by Mullins would he still be 6/1, hacked up in a Charlie Hall, demolished a quality Betfair field and got up to win a King George the front two a country mile clear of the Ryanair fav and Hennessy winner.

The reason for my comment was to see whether others were starting to respect his chances...

I think his chance has to be respected Isty, especially in light of Tizzards bullishness, and, as you say, with a deeper explanation of his op. I've always been a fan of CC but have been dismissive of his chance in the Gold cup because of past doubts over his ability to stay. I would add that his view that CC would have gone further clear over a greater distance would be equally aided by Vautour clearly not staying as his charge staying well, so I'm in the "will need to see it to believe it camp" but I would think his chances are helped by being such a great jumper

All very fair points Mr M.....

Trainers and jockeys are confident in their own horses, fair enough re Tizzard and Brennan, then you get comments from Ruby to suit his needs for winners at the festival, re run Vautour in Ryannair and Djackadam in Gold Cup and I'll have two chances to win instead of one, fair enough, but for me I dont read too much into these comments, if it was as easy as listening to the jockeys and trainers at the preview nights and hanging off their words of wisdom then the bookies would be cleaned out if their views were proved to be right.Brennan said right after the King George...I'm not going to lie there wasnt much left in the locker....now he's saying another half mile and he would have went further clear....funny that!!

Hey guys, hope you're all wedged up for the fest.

Paddy Brennan straight after the King George
"I'm not going to lie and say there was loads there, I got to the bottom of the tank but if any man is going to get him back in that sort of form for the Gold Cup it's Colin Tizzard.

CC's stamina doubts and age would worry me.

I had a cheeky fiver on Don Cossack at 75/1 on the betfair nearly 12 months ago, but i'm not sure about him. Coming from a 2m4f prep race is dodgy in my opinion. Can't remember many winners doing that.

Vautour for me with a saver on Don Poli. If the grounds quick i'll have an each way tickle on Holywell at a massive price:)

Cue Card was undoubtedly on fumes at the end of the King George. Paddy Brennan has a history of getting carried away with preview night comments.

When he described Khyber Kim as Ferrari-like in the Greatwood, that may have been the flashiest bit of patter.

That said, the closer we get to the Festival, the one horse I fear the most is Cue Card. I'm up to my eyes on Vautour.

Do we think this is the best renewel in years? Really hard to pin down. Whilst i respect CC, i have never been a lover, i can't see it here. Last year the rain came for Many Clouds and he blew it and then came out on ground he's not known to like over the longer trip and wins the National! So you never know but i really like DC, blocked off in running last year he was finishing like a real stayer. He'lll get the trip i and i thought he had CC in his sites before falling in the King George. If he stays up he'll go close. I might have a saver on Don Poli though, who after watching last years fest yesterday does worry me a bit.

Cooper was later on RSA Chase contender No More Heroes for Gordon Elliott as he jumped in company with King George faller Don Cossack, ridden by Russell. Elliott said: “The two of them were very good, I couldn’t be happier. Davy said he [Don Cossack] could have gone round again, I thought the two of them worked very well.

“Davy sat on him there, Bryan has to make a decision on which one he is going to ride. I would have no problem with Davy riding him.”

Russell, who won the Gold Cup on Lord Windermere in 2014, said: “He went well and he jumped great.” Asked if he would like to ride him in the Gold Cup, he said: “I’d be delighted to ride any Gold Cup horse.”
