2015 National Hunt Chase aka the four miler

So we need another selection for the Tuesday yankee then, prob better to wait till nearer the time in case others are pulled out

I thought this one was missing the festival for aintree? Outsider?
Vivaldi Collonges

He runs in the four-miler. He was second to King’s Palace at Newbury the other day and this is a nice race for him.

VIVALDI COLLONGES (5 b g Dom Alco – Diane Collonges)
Form: 2631- Trainer: Paul Nicholls Owner: The Gi Gi Syndicate

Travelled well for a long way when chasing home Rally in a 2m 4f novices’ hurdle at Wetherby last November, but he failed to make much of an impression in a pair of decent 2m 5f novice events at Cheltenham and Warwick subsequently. However, he came good in a big way on handicap debut (3m) at Ayr’s Scottish National meeting in April, moving into things stylishly on the approach to three out and storming clear on the run-in to score by 8 lengths from See Double You. He is very much a chaser in the making, from pedigree to physique, and the visual impression he created when last seen was a deep one; significant improvement sure to be forthcoming over fences in his second season, likely to stay 3m at least (could even be one for the 4m National Hunt Chase at Cheltenham in March).

Another outsider for people to consider and possibly highlighted by her run in the Grimthorpe….Theatre Queen.

Anyone who saw the race could certainly say she ran well despite her reluctance to start which left her 25+ lengths in arrears before meeting the first fence. She ended up finishing a plugging on 4th, 19l behind the very well handicapped Wayward Prince and arguably would of been right involved at the finish if not blowing the start.

Her trainer and jockey, Mark Wall said the following on Sporting Life following the Grimthorpe:

"She seems fine and was barging her way out of her stable on Sunday morning, so I think there's a reasonable chance she'll run in the National Hunt Chase.

"If she'd won the other day and picked up a 5lb penalty, we'd have been doing cartwheels and probably gone for the Kim Muir, but I don't think she'd get in now and our hand has been forced to a certain degree.

"Some people think she could have won the other day, others don't. I think she would definitely have given the winner (Wayward Prince) a run for his money.

"It's always a bit of an awkward one with her as people call her all sorts of names and I end up defending her, but she really isn't the moody mare that a lot of people think she is.

"It's definitely not that she doesn't want to race. Once she's in a race, she sticks her head down and gets on with it. It's just a trait of the family that, for whatever reason, they suffer a bit of stage fright when they get to the start.

"Her dam (Dust Gale) was similar and a horse called Anoch, who was the brother of her grand-dam, won 18 races in Ireland and he also got left at the start on a few occasions."

So given this is her likely target, and she gets a handy 7lb allowance from the boys, does anyone else think she could be a bit of e/w value at 50/1 (Ladbrokes) albeit a bit risky if she decides to mess up the start again? I can't work out if I'm just clutching at straws or if she genuinely could run a big race here with the extra distance to suit...

I watched the race, Lessey, and I couldn't believe the sustained effort the horse made to finish were she did. Most horses giving that sort of start away, either never get into the race, or use up too much energy to get involved and end up fading quickly. This one didn't panic, just crept closer in her own time, but still managed to get competitive. I've been having the exact same thoughts you have regarding Cheltenham. If she gets away on level terms, you'll get a run for your money. If she doesn't, I don't think she'll manage to get involved this time. Surely worth 50p e/w just to see, though :)

Thanks dancing Paddy and welcome.

I totally agree she will need to start on level terms or she'll have no chance but to carry on how she did was certainly eye catching. Its a shame she won't make it into the Kim Muir as due to her skeptical starts she's probably feasibly handicapped but I reckon a race like this may well suit her and with doubts about who at the head of the market is going to turn up she could certainly give a good run for a 50/1 shot
