RSA Chase 2018

Always interesting how people gauge races differently. Presenting Percy ‘a machine’, ‘on that performance he wins at Cheltenham with his eyes closed’, comments I’ve read on Twitter about the weekends race. I find that absolute nonsense, by definition a machine doesn’t lose 8 out of 16 races. PP was getting 7lbs from our duke, an out and out stayer who has never been blessed with great pace. That he couldn’t outpace our duke over that trip getting 7lbs is miserable form to me, yet people seem to think that means he’s proved himself in grade 1 company. Remember that our duke himself has been woeful this season. Id be shocked if either win a race at Cheltenham this year, no point debating further now as all the form is in the book and it will be wait and see on the day, but I’m really comfortable opposing both (and having this rubbed in my face if proved wrong!)

I see it exactly the same and happy to be proved wrong. Can't see it though.

I'm on the other side of the fence with this one.....although I don't think PP is a machine.

Doesn't matter whether any of us agree of disagree with Robbante but he has a strong view, has backed that with a comprehensive post and has given reasons why he holds that view, so he gets a round of applause from me...

I wouldn’t be overly shocked to see PP win *, but the race would really have to be run to suit (a machine would win either way). You would need a couple up front to run at breakneck speed and then he might pick up the pieces staying on... hoping Monalee is dropped in a bit as he’ll surely outpace PP if given a sensible ride

* edit * I would definitely still be shocked on reflection, there is enough in opposition to make me think him winning is a real long shot. And also people have already mentioned that the Irish National may well be his main target this year

Absolutely. It's better to have an opinion, than no opinion at all.... Is how the saying goes.

I'm firmly in the Black Corton Camp here now , Has run 18 times and only been out of the frame once ( 4th in a 16 runner race ).
Has two course and distance races to his name , Just seems to keep getting better . sure , will face some stiff
opposition in Mona lee and P.P. . But I think he's got a great shout .

I agree with the PP analysis. I think he's in the wrong race, as he should be in the 4 miler.

An absolutely model of consistency, could not begrudge him winning this either, he has been fantastic for connections.

I think you can definitely say that Presenting Percy's best form is over further and on better ground as well...so the fact he couldn't "out pace" a stayer is because he is also a stayer? Our Duke is not a novice, Percy is, 7lbs is negligible when it isn't his optimum.
I'd expect Our Duke to beat Presenting Percy in any 3m race too, but I wouldn't knock Percy with that... I think that would have been unfair.

It does mean Presenting Percy is NOT a superstar... but again,. I wouldn't beat him down with that...

I agree Presenting Percy would be better suited to the 4 miler....

However, Monalee isn't a machine, neither is Black Corton, Elegant Escape, Yanworth or any other horse that could possibly turn up in the race.

Monalee for me. I like to follow trends for this, and the Albert B trend stands out. Rather side with a horse that placed in a graded hurdle race over that who won in a handicap

Would love to provide more insight into my thoughts on this one, but it’s a race I don’t spark any excitement for me.

Fully agree that no machine is going to win the rsa this year. I just can’t have presenting percy, regardless of how annoying I find the fanboys. I see one potential gold cup horse in that race this year and that’s Monalee. If he doesn’t win then I’d be fairly convinced that the race won’t throw up any future gold cup horse

33/1 and 40/1

to become Gold Cup horses.... so might pay if you're right.... however, you've overlooked the absolute JUDGE that is...

Jeremy Kyle.... who announced Black Corton could be a Gold Cup horse.

Surprised he didn't supplement him.:highly_amused:

Yanworth goes for the Stayers' and NOT here or any other race, Alan King confirms.

Really? I am honestly extremely suprised by that. Should have kept to yourself and took me up on the evens first. :)

It's interesting that there seems to be a PP camp and a Monalee camp.

I like both:devilish:
