Champion Chase 2018

Would be great to watch Altior vs Yorkhill in this race.

We need big clashes in the top races.

Min been really weak on exchanges for a while now.

Bad news on its way?

Since his 'defeat '?

I think he's been over bet because of Douvan... might just be people taking evasive action as he isn't as good as Douvan or Yorkhill as a contender

Yorkhill has a bit to prove himself over 2 to be fair.

Mullins was quoted as saying 'we are happy enough with Min'.

I remember thinking that didn't seem overly positive.

And seeing Min available at 11.5 to Back with nothing to Lay seemed a little suspicious. But I'm always paranoid this close to the festival :devilish:

I noticed he was weak for this at the weekend and also 29+ for the Ryanair.

Photos released of him today (some on twitter) in work at the press day at Closutton for the Dublin festival of which hes entered for. Not injured as photos show him in work and not just standing in the stable.

I'll put the drift down to the 'Yorkhill Effect'.

Quite common this time of year...

Willie at the press briefing today -

Douvan is back in light training but Mullins believes it is too early to say whether the star two-mile chaser will run this season.

The Rich Ricci-owned eight-year-old has not been seen since he sustained a pelvic injury when suffering a shock defeat in the Queen Mother Champion Chase at Cheltenham last March.

He had been set to reappear in the Tingle Creek Chase at Sandown in December but was not declared, with Mullins reporting he had not been totally happy with him in the days before the race.

He subsequently ruled him out for the entire campaign, but Mullins said: "He's back cantering and we are doing that for a few weeks to see how he progresses. We will take things slowly.

"I don't know and I don't want to say what the chances are of him running this season.

"There was an injury there and whether that was an old injury or not he hurt himself for a few days.

"What surprised us all was his recovery, how quick it was, and then our veterinary team started looking at him from another angle and were thinking that there was a little chance (of him running again this season)."

Yorkhill was disappointing in the Leopardstown Christmas Chase - his first try for Mullins over three miles - and is now set to drop back down in trip for the Coral Dublin Chase on February 3.

A return to hurdling for the two-time Cheltenham Festival winner has not been ruled out, either.

Mullins said: "We will go down the two-mile chase route and if that doesn't work we will go back to hurdling.

"I'm happy for him to go for the Coral Dublin Chase, and I don't think there is much alternative."

Min, who crossed the line first in a Grade One over Christmas but was demoted by the stewards, is another contender for the Dublin Chase.

"He's in great shape and came out of his race over Christmas at Leopardstown well," said Mullins.

Good upbeat bulletin regarding Min.

Sounds like they are guessing a little with Yorkhill.

I think the fact it hasn't worked out at 3m has posed a small dilemma to the yard.

Great Field "He’s coming along nicely. He could make it back for Cheltenham, but we’ll have to wait and see."

In the stable tour Mullins says he never ever thought Yorkhill was a 3 miler and he's always said that... and that he has always thought he was a CH horse, which in turn means he could be a CC horse....

and I still think he'll be a Ryanair horse.... :highly_amused:

lol hes given some amount of different quotes about this horse! Pricewise has now put him up for the champion chase

I think he's been championing that idea for a while (along with Kevin Blake and Lydia Hislop)....

I think Altior is far superior to Yorkhill - so I'd not consider him for the win. Albeit, I haven't seen Yorkhill run at 2m over fences so if he puts in a brilliant performance then I'll re-assess - price will have gone though!

If you go back to Christmas Mullins was saying Yorkhill was all 3m on pedigree. Perhaps he was overruled by Mr Wylie.

The gut feeling after the Neptune was that he had Champion Hurdle class, so the minimum trip could work for him.

Yorkhill is one quirky beast and probably overrated because of it (just my opinion).

That's my opinion too OV, although he would be a fascinating addition to this race. I'd be very confident Altior would beat him, providing he was somewhere near 100%.

I'm very much hoping Yorkhill will come here. Will help the price of Altior on the day...
