Novice Chasers 2027

….Nick Luck thinks so too.
The thing is, we all know he can't beat an in form Lossy giving half a stone. She will need to not turn up or underperform on the day . Something she hasn't done in 4 years. It's a very big ask.

I'm hoping BDA beats her again in the Irish equivalent and her price is pushed out again so I can grab some more 3's

Do we know though? He has it all to prove and has to improve but he is definitely the one that has the scope to.

I hope BDA beats her again too because i took some of the 33s for BDA and they will have to come here again

Yes, we know.

She'll not go to Cheltenham again IMO. No point. She just doesn't perform there.

Yep, he’s a lot to make up on current ratings, but from 5 to 6 he’s capable of a fair bit of improvement
I just want as much competition as we can get for the fav

I thought she ran well last year.

It's just that there was a grey rocket half way up the track in front of her

She did run well, but she’s shown she runs better away from Cheltenham
In Ireland last season she and Lossie were pretty closely matched
Lossie is tailor made for Cheltenham, unfortunately for us BDA it seems is not.

Carnage is now converted....😂

Yep it's definitely overdue to limit the age of bumper horses to 5 or 6, full stop and not just the graded races in spring
The idea of bumpers is to give horses experience before going over obstacles even though many come from PtP's.
Maybe they could also prevent horses from going chasing before the age of 6 also. On the same basis, experience + welfare etc.
This should help fill out the hurdle division and provide more chance that some could develop into champions and graded level over hurdles.
Rather than put an age limit on bumpers, I'd rather they just didn't have any class 1 events. If you want to win a grade 1 flat race, there's an entire bloody summer to do that! Take away the championship element to bumpers, make them all standard class 4 10k affairs and I'm sure trainers will crack on with hurdling. Make them maidens while you're at it. Win one and feck off.

I don't mind trainers sending horses chasing but I do question it when they have a good handicap mark. Seems mad not to try and target a big pot in an early season handicap hurdle (silver trophy, great wood, that 3 mile haydock race etc) and then have a novice chase campaign starting at Christmas. Doesn't help when the handicapper slaughters novices for decent runs in the big festivals. Baron Noir went up 16lbs for a never involved 4th in the supreme 🤢

She did go and win at Aintree afterwards though so it didn't curtail her season. She got some nice runner up money from the CH then the first prize pot at Aintree. That was with a month gap though. It's only 3 weeks this time which could be the kicker in her only doing one of the two

Anyway...

Nicky says Crystal Island has schooled very well over fences. Daft old sod

Not to de-rail the chasers thread but am i the only one that thinks Mydaddypaddy has huge potential for loads of improvement?

I am invested in both so not too concerned but he could and i expect to improve an absolute ton this season. He has loads going for him. Lightly raced, young, loads of finishing speed, high cruising speed and an uncanny knack of meeting his hurdles on a near perfect stride.
I agree with you regarding Mydaddypaddy. I think it's quite normal for a good novice to improve +14lbs and I really hope he does. Lossiemouth is very good but I don't rate her as much as most people do. Even Willie and Paul thought State Man was better but she still seems to get more recognition.

I agree. I think MDP can put it up to Lossiemouth. I agree with the comments about his jumping and how he travels. I’ve watched the Supreme back a number of times and I’m convinced he was coming through to win when blocked. At the very least he would have been right in the mix for first place. I’m expecting a lot of improvement and we now know he handles Cheltenham which is a must. Personally, I would much rather take the the 14-1 MDP (price a few months ago) than tie money up on a short price Lossiemouth with 5 month still to go.

Anyone got any thoughts on idaho sun ? He obviously beat mydaddypaddy at Aintree, although hurdles were omitted.

I did take the 14's back then but did it Each Way as no real confidence behind it. At the time Lossiemouth was still 3's and it probably would have been more sensible to top up on her as 2 points win would return 8pts whereas the same stake (1 point EW ) on MDP to be placed returns just 3.8 pts. There's always the chance he could win it but he'd have to turn out to be a superstar.like her.

If only there was someone from Hills or Ladbrokes that read these boards who could add Gameofinches to their Brown Advisory markets 🧐

I’ve backed BDA for the very same reason. Too big a price to ignore IMO
