Novice Chasers 2027

….Act of Innocence;

‘He had a tremendous first season over hurdles when winning his maiden at Newbury and then went onto win the Sidney Banks at Huntingdon. He ran another exceptional race in the Turners Novices’ Hurdle at the Festival and was only beaten two and a half lengths by King Rasko Grey. He’s had a lovely summer break with his owners Gordon and Su Hall, and he has an abundance of size and scope, so the plan is to go novice chasing. He jumped his hurdles very well and could be an even better chaser.’

If Kabral does similar tomorrow, christ knows what price he'll be cut to.

…..OPS;

‘He couldn’t have done any better for us last season and remained unbeaten in four starts for us which culminated in his victory in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. At the moment we are thinking of going novice chasing and hoping that we will be back at Cheltenham next spring for the Arkle. He has loads of scope and is clearly a very exciting project.’
...ATM we are thinking of going Novice Chasing......🤔

Can see all the YouTubers waxing lyrical about this and his price will gradually end up about 10s before his next race.
The win was very easy on the eye so I can definitely see that. He has quite a lot of ground (20lb?) to make up on the better hurdlers (OPS, Sober Glory etc...) so he wouldn't be my pick at his current price but looks like he can at least contend. Interesting as to whether / how he will impact plans for Kabral Du Mathan in same trainer/ownership - could lead to one (the latter?) being held back for the Manifesto.

Had a bit at 60-1 on exchange for CH.
The market is dominated by Lossie and it seems sensible to place small bets at big prices on those likely to parachute in if anything happened to her.
Sir Gino is a prime example of something similar.
With Act of Innocence and OPS both set to go chasing an arkle then it won't take much for one to drop back hurdling.

you can say sober glory under performed but sinnatra did come 2nd in the grade 1 at Aintree ahead of SG so he has shown he can beat him so I dont think theres so much to make up there

Makes a fair bit of sense that to be fair. He was supposed to be the 2m horse and showed plenty of speed through the season, then stayed on gamely in the Turners. That's the Champion Hurdle Goldilocks zone so if he does end up over hurdles towards the spring he will a hell of a lot shorter. Probably about 5/1.

Q was talking about OPS

Same applies to AOI though

Don't think that there is much doubt that Sober Glory ran below his Supreme form. The race was won by a horse that had just won a handicap off a mark of 125 so difficult to rate it that highly. That said, Sinnatra is still on an upward trajectory and Skelton is certainly very adept at getting his novices to jump a fence so not saying it is insurmountable but on simple weights and measures there is a sizeable gap to bridge to the Supreme winner on hurdle ratings (14lb according to the official handicapper, 18lb according to RPRs).

Hendo's comment is strange. We're in October and they still aren't sure which route to go down.

Sounds like it's in the balance

Makes starting and staying over hurdles more likely then I suppose
They have been very consistent saying he'll go chasing but you can't help thinking how poor the Champion Hurdle looks if you take out Lossiemouth plus the fact owners have the classy AOI who also looks an ideal type for the Arkle. As an owner I'd be very keen to split them that way . OPS could easily go chasing next season if it didn't work out.
They could easily go the other way and send AOI down the CH route.
IMO AOI is not a BANC horse so if they both go chasing then they'll have to bump into each other at some point.

Sinnatra comes across as the right type of horse to carry a big weight against inferior opposition and look good. Described as a big powerful type then as long as he was fit he had ideal conditions. L'Eau Du Sud stepped up though did disappoint at both Cheltenham and Aintree later in his novice season.

Watching the Captain Teague/Tutti Quanti run and I was quite impressed with TQ. Jumped well in front in general, though going through the inside wing wouldn't of helped him. He was just picked up by a classy, more experienced chaser for a yard whose horses are ready first time up and was ridden more efficiently. Waiting for the sectionals to assess that a bit better. The biggest takeaway about it for me was that he didn't drop out with the washing. He still was plugging on at the finish, which is fine, but could that mean stepping up in trip rather than shorter? Also worth seeing what happens to their marks. Captain Teague off 133 looks a steal but he has just beaten a rival rated 151 over hurdles. Caldwell Potter won the Jack Richards off 146 so Nicholls not averse to putting a horse in the race off a highish rating.
