2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup

Yep, it helps that Thistlecrack isn't running, but I can see NR doing a Denman and jumping his rivals silly. We can all dream, cant we....

Blaklion is probably worth a few £ purely on the record of RSA winners in the gold cup.

I thou8ght so when I backed him at 33/1 before NRNB came in.... Was avail at 50/1 NRNB for a while ...and oh, still is. :triumphant:

If the commentator compares Native River to Denman I'll weep.

:devilish:

Champagne West looks interesting, form of his last race in Ireland was franked on Saturday with a line through Vieux Lion Rouge, could be a player in a sub par race, if he turns up

The very first antepost L.15 i did this year , Blaklion 33-1 , With - Min , annie power and barters hill !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

Could still be a winner BC :grumpy:

He’s ran away with me for at least two-six and for a horse to be getting free with you five (fences) out in that ground is not normal. To win off such a high weight, he must have a serious engine.”

David mullins on champagne west.

The only horse I haven't got covered :devilish: .... how taken are we with his run LTO... does he need it soft? I backed him for the Ryanair last season and was really disappointed!

His jumping can be hit and miss but was excellent last day. Will be having a few quid on him for sure. The way the season has gone it wouldn't surprise me though.

He was chased home by the fourth in the Becher chase, won by Vieux Lion Rouge, who franked the form by winning the National trial on Sat, I reckon he could serve it up to them in this, ground should have some cut, they don't normally like it too fast, was last year of course, can't be discounted in this company in my view

Im with you Mr.Mc. He has the best bit of Irish form this season. He just needs plenty of ease in the ground which could be a negative. If it came up soft id be very strong on his chances.

Not a lot of love or mentions for Outlander, he's become the forgotten horse of the race.
Especially considering he's in the first 5 in the betting.
He won a big race at Leopardstown over Christmas and has been put away since.
In such an ordinary year he must have a big chance.

I'm trying to big him up and convince myself at the same time mainly because he's the last of my antepost vouchers for this race still standing.

I've had four losers already in this race (Coneygree, Vautour, Valseur Lido & TC) and the tape hasn't gone up yet!

4 defeats and fallen twice prior to his Christmas victory wouldn't scream Gold Cup Winner but he had Djakadam behind and that one is half Outlanders price so there is an argument that can be made for him.

I'm building a strong view that the best pieces of form this season have been provided by Native River and Cue Card, alternatives come from last years festival for which brings in Minella Rocco and at a push 2 or 3 others, but viable alternatives are thin on the ground....

Which piece of Native River form Ista?

Can't be the Hennesey with Caroles Rubbish being so close, or LTO against La Merc? Or the Welsh National when he was unfairly in at the weights?

You may well be right, that might be the strongest form on offer, but easy enough to pick holes in too?

Agree about Outlander's price compared to Djakadam... if you fancy Djakadam you'd have to seriously consider Outlander too.

Don't agree Kev, any Hennessy win is a fair effort and looking further back in the field are some decent animals including the previous seasons runaway winner.
His Welsh National run was also a top effort and put another 45l between him and Carole's Destrier.
And he has a habit of idling so actual distance can't always be taken literally, he was worth far more for me in each of his wins.

Bobs Worth and Denman both came through the Hennessy to triumph in the Gold Cup, Native River just looks to be a genuine top class stayer who keeps trying which is exactly what you need

I know age is massively against Cue Cardfor this, but I don't think it's any secret that CC trains alongside Theatre Guide, for the same owner and Tizzard had said previously they work together, so a big run Saturday by Theatre Guide might be a positive and I'd imagine it means CC is being kept honest at home too.

We already know he is in good health after his romp over 2m 5f last weekend, but this would surely act as a positive. It also may be that Theatre Guide is in good form, purely based on his work with CC, so could be a bet come Saturday.

Ista - I did say it might be the strongest form on offer, not dismissing him for effort, or being the type. I've said previously Synchronised changed how I view this race. My point is regarding the form that, the reasons I think he might win the race aren't based on his actual form, it is based on how he has done it, and how suited it looks like he would be to the test. You may very well be spot on with him being worth far more than the bare form, I was just saying the bare form is easy enough to pick a hole in?

Donn likes John

Sizing John

Sizing John was very good in winning the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown last Sunday.

Always travelling well for Robbie Power, a little keenly if anything, his jumping was really good throughout, and he moved up on the outside of Don Poli on the run around the home turn. He jumped the final fence well, and he stayed on strongly up the hill to get home by three parts of a length and the same from Empire Of Dirt and Don Poli.

This was Sizing John’s first attempt at three miles, and he passed the test well. They did not go a great gallop from flagfall, so you could argue that his stamina was not tested to the maximum, but the sedate pace may not have been a positive, given how well he travelled, given how keen he was. There is a chance that he could even improve off a stronger pace.

Jessica Harrington’s horse stayed two and a half miles well on his previous run, he out-stayed Sub Lieutenant to win the Kinloch Brae Chase, and he probably improved again for the step up to three miles here.

Connections were talking about the Cheltenham Gold Cup after the race, and he deserves to take his chance in that now. He was a high-class novice hurdler two seasons ago, and he was a high-class novice chaser last season. His jumping has always been superb, and, probably at his best on goodish ground, he should improve on his Leopardstown run on the better ground that he should get at Cheltenham. And we know that he can operate under Cheltenham Festival conditions, given that he was third in a Supreme Novices’ Hurdle and second to Douvan in an Arkle in two runs there. Also, he is only seven, he has scope still to progress as a staying chaser.

We don’t know for sure that he will stay three miles and two and a half furlongs, but he stayed three miles on soft ground at Leopardstown. Also, he is by Midnight Legend and his dam won hurdle races over two and a half miles, so there is every chance that he will. And remember, Kicking King and War Of Attrition and Best Mate were all two-mile novice chasers before they stepped up in trip and won the Gold Cup.
