2017 Cheltenham Gold Cup

At a long shot I know he's been below par this season and I haven't checked the entries but this horse always wanted a trip in my opinion, black Hercules...

The whole thing is set up for Mullins to win the elusive Gold Cup after a disappointing week and O Learys gutting the yard of chasers.

actually thought that Thistlecrack post was a joke.

Damn.

Fest shaping up to be a bit of a damp squib

Impossible to have a positive spin, whether you are with or against Thistlecrack. The Gold Cup had already had some fantastic horses missing and Thistlecrack not running is an absolute hammer blow for the race.

The decision to run him in the King George was so bold, brave and coupled with winning it, and this injury, justifies those kinds of decisions. Hard luck to the connections and what a shame for the sport!

Never known a season like this, albeit a limited amount of years being into the sport. That's the last of lasts years champions to not make it not with Thistlecrack, Annie, Sprinter, Don Cossack all missing this years festival.

I know Coneygree won the Gold Cup coming into it as a novice but this was different. Thistlecrack has in a way got us through this season of lows, being one of the few 'good' stories and horses to brighten up such a season. For it to be only 3 weeks away, and not have chance to complete his journey is all the more devastating.

Gutted for this to happen to the connections. Plenty of horses are held back with one race in mind and when these things happen it makes you wonder if they should have been braver. No such accusation could be levelled at them and sadly in this instance fortune doesn't favour the brave.

Feel for Tom Scu massively in this too. I REALLY hope the horse will be back next season but tendon injuries are never good and him being 10 next year means his best chance may have passed for the Gold Cup (for all Cue Card gives hope at 11). It's not like he's stable jockey for a Mullins or Henderson...He may never get such a chance again.

What is this festival even about?

All champions of their respective races are out, and now one of the most, if not the most exciting newcomer is now out, seriously deflated right now, despite Djakadam being my main GC bet.

The positive spin is new champions coming to the front of the line and then finding out at next years festival wether the champions of this year are worthy compared to there predecessors from the year before coming back, slightly annoyed though as all other horses I've backed had been in the betting without thistlecrack market and now he's out they've lost there value...

Haha gjt I have most of my Djakadam bets in the w/out Thistlecrack market too, though I am now just thankful at this present time that he is still fit, fingers crossed it stays like that!

Poor Scu indeed! I wonder if this will move Moon Racer in to the CH!

Why would it affect a different race/yard Kev?

Not directly... just thinking about whether he would personally be pushing for it, and I think Pipe would agree. If I was Moon Racer's owners I would too... Each case on its merits I guess.

I wonder if the yard knew this a couple weeks back and couldn't get him back on track? I was told Cuecard was the one to be on a couple weeks back. (Ista should be able to back me up on this quote)

I saw you post that on here LR. Maybe they did... if it was Mullins people would be all over him for it... different approach now it is Tizzard?

To be honest I'm surprised they are not going for the CH anyway, especially with the way it is looking, but I don't think they would change target for sentimental reasons.

Yes, wouldn't they just, surprised this isn't Mullins thought as it is tbh!

A Welsh National winner favourite for the Gold Cup!!!!

No, I think they knew TC had a niggle and that he may not make it. Knowing Tiz he would have tried everything he could to try and get him back.

Its just too conincidental Scude released a quote yesterday about Cuecard being the main danger. Maybe I should take these quotes more serious next time around.
