Min and Faugheen ruled out of Cheltenham races

By Peter Scargill 3:36PM 6 FEB 2017

A MAJOR hole has been blown in trainer Willie Mullins's Cheltenham Festival team as both Faugheen and Min were on Monday ruled out of next month's meeting.

While Mullins hopes both will make it to the track again this season, they will not be at Cheltenham next month where they had been set to contest the Stan James Champion Hurdle and Racing Post Arkle respectively.

Faugheen, who missed his scheduled comeback in last month's Irish Champion Hurdle due to a pre-race setback, has suffered a stress fracture but Mullins is "hoping that he will be okay for Punchestown".

Min also missed his most recent target, the Irish Arkle, and has a bone bruise, according to Mullins. He could still make meetings later in the spring.

Gutted - if Yorkhill is sent here my nice antepost bets are in ruins

Min Yorkhill ACCA's totally binned.

VVM wins the champion hurdle I'll run naked into my bathroom.

I dont think VVM is a champion hurdle horse.

Any chance a Supreme horse diverts?

What a absolute disaster.

I'm don't mean to be negative about the festival but the Champion Hurdle is looking so poor now, not champion or former present, 2 rerouted current season chasers, nah, this is not good for racing.

Is the stress fracture the injury that kept Faugheen out last week (and wasn't properly diagnosed) or a completely new injury?

Either way I find it hard to believe we'll see him again, just seems to be so fragile now and have no luck with injuries.

Not really a horse I like but My tent or yours each way at 25s nrnb is tempting me for this now
Likes Cheltenham and good ground
Good second last year to a horse that broke the track record and he had no prep run
Trainer has great record in race and has won it before with the outsider of three

Whats Vroum Vroum Mag done wrong.Obviously was not right last time out but still won, a near perfect record, one short head defeat to a race fit Apples Jade, beat Champion hurdle horses Identity Thief and My Tent Or Yours over 2m at Punchestown last season, has to go for this race now, nothing to fear from Yanworth, Beuvair, Brain Power etc....only stablemate Yorkhill to worry about!!

Why bother with nrnb? Not a chance he goes county Hurdle. Take the 50s still on offer, he'll be in the frame for decent place money.

In case he picks up an injury
They are dropping like flies at the moment

This is going to be a big field now. Surely anything with half a chance will be running.

Faugheen out by the sounds of it.

Was it FM said a couple of weeks ago that the Faugheen injury was worse than what was being reported in the media, his absence doesn't surprise me at all....

Totally agree.

I was told that Mins injury was worse than reported.
