All them weeks of waiting and getting up at 4am!!!! …….. for that! FFS!! What a waste of time and effort that was! Almost stone cold last! Think I need to find a new hobby! Cause am hopeless at this one.
 
Hard place to go and win, easy to back in the run-up.

They went extremely fast don't think he stayed the trip

You'd need to have been a 2m4f/3m jumps horse to be staying that strongly run a 2m flat race

He did go backwards very quickly though so maybe something will come out in the next few days that he went lame or picked up a niggle

Not to be unfortunately.

It wasn't a terrible run and cant blame Ryan, but he was so flat after turning in - Willie sounded surprised.

The market on the flat usually tells a story and I knew before the off we were in trouble as he drifted like a barge and the money came for his stablemate who beat him.

Wouldn't be at all surprised if an issue comes to light, or maybe he's just not good enough, thats racing. At least we can get stuck into the proper stuff now.

How much for the wheelbarrow?
 
Well, I'm not sure what to say. It was most definitely a massive anti-climax.

I see the quote from Willie afterwards trying to find the right excuse for the run, even mentioning Ryan potentially lighting him up to get a position, which, personally, I think is clutching as I think he needed a position. If he hadn't got the position he had every man and his dog would have been rightly moaning about Ryan for not having him in the correct position.

For me personally, it wasn't so much the loss on Vauban that hurt but the amount of roll ups that looked very good prior to that defeat. Constitution Hill being the big one as a potential 140pt return, but hey ho, take the losses and move on.

I've had more luck rolling up class 6 horses on the flat this season than the graded stuff :surprise:

Note to self: Stick to what I know.....unless Saxon has a bet on the American stuff :highly_amused:

Maybe he doesn't quite get 2 miles at flat racing pace although Willie seemed to think he was beaten too far out to be sure. Commiserations to all those who had double figure prices. The only satisfaction that I got from the race was that, as predicted, Vauban's price did indeed drift approaching post time.
 
Rich Ricci saying Vauban will hopefully have another crack next season. Won't be going back over hurdles, but then again.....Gold Cup or nothing :devilish::highly_amused:
 
The pace of the race gave him no chance really

Those horses went off like the clappers and he was too near that pace

Moore had no choice but to be reasonably prominent from stall 3

That pace was always going to collapse
 
The winner was in stall 2 and was 10 lengths behind Vauban for most of the race so 'no choice' doesn't hack it for me.

Sorry, you're correct. I was thinking of Gold Trip in 2 who was pretty close to the winner for most of the race. Soulcombe in 4, who missed the break completely, was another who didn't suffer from being off the pace even if it wasn't by choice.

As you note, Soulcombe was in 4 but missed the break, so had no choice to race how he did, other than that the top 5 drawn, 1, 2, 3 & 5, two of which, were fancied runners in Gold Trip and Vauban, the highest next finishing position was 10th.

It's going to be all ifs, buts and maybes but say he had held him up and the pace hadn't collapsed, or worse still he found trouble in running, that would have been a lot worse, IMO, than how he did ride him. He rode him prominent at Ascot and scooted clear by some 7 lengths, albeit over 2f shorter, but it's not as if he didn't know the horse.

No idea what the end excuse will be, but I think you mentioned it previously that potentially he just didn't stay the trip over, what looked like, a fairly quickly run 2m. I would side with this reason too.
