2022 Novice Hurdle Division

Add to this Henderson's novices this season, I suspect those two will be going head to head in novice division and it'll be difficult for anyone else to get a look in. Elliott and De Brohmead will try of course, and are really the only one's likely to break the stranglehold.

I think the two of them will have the Supreme between them, and probably the Ballymore too, so it's really only the Albert Bartlett where the others may get a look in. Journey With Me is obviously popular, Elliott has good options, and I suspect Cromwell has another good dart for it.
 
Also with what looks like an exceptional bunch of novices, I wonder which ones are destined for handicaps? Anyone any thoughts which of the really nice ones will get 'quiet' campaigns?

I agree its going to really hard for anyone to compete with Hendo or Willie in the division this season (Hendo mainly at the shorter end). The only other yard that I see having a chance at this stage are HDB, Elliott and Cromwell, and maybe Nicholls with Knappers Hill but he most likely will save him for Aintree and Chasing next year.

Elliott has:
Hollow Games - Any race
Gerri Colombe - Ballymore most likely
Jumping Jet - Mares?
Three Stripe Life - Martin Pipe
Vina Ardanza - Really wouldn't be surprised if he goes the Bumper
Party Central - Mares
Ginto - AB (probably a distance stayer in the future)
Mighty Potter - Any Race

HDB:
Journey With Me - AB most likely to keep apart from Gerri Colombe (same owner), with Grand Jury going Supreme (although not top end bases on punchestown run)

Skelton:
Elle Est Belle - Mares

Cromwell:
My Mate Mozzie
Letsbeclearaboutit - AB

There will be the odd other to come through but I really think that all 4 novice hurdles will go to one of these 6 trainers next year

Elliott will definitely plot a few for handicaps. I think Three Strip life for the MP is the main one atm. And Willie will have to send some the handicap way to split them up

IMO they’d be mad not to send one there to keep that streak going. WPM has serious firepower too, that has to play on their minds too! :grey:
 
Has there been any formal statement out of Cheveley Park since the death of David Thompson ?
I haven’t heard anything firm but their strategy may change with new people making the calls…

The current bunch are not bumper horses though and were bought to be Gold Cup horses. Previously they’d bought types that could handle running in bumpers but Classic Getaway and Grangeclare West need to be jumping and over a trip.

Is there a consensus or has there been any word on Letsbeclearaboutit and My Mate Mozzie? Both seem like Albert Bartlett horses but they'll surely be split up.

My Mate Mozzie I’d have for Supreme or Ballymore myself. I’m interested about the Albert Bartlett angle as I don’t see it myself?

Just will I'm touching on Willies novice hurdlers I will try to make a guess where they will all end up tripwise by March. Though some could end up in handicaps if not as good as the others:

Guily Billy is a Coastal Path out of a Dom Alco Mare so should be sharp enough for bumpers at the moment you'd think. He'll certainly start down the bumper route, the trouble is HdB usually has a quiet bumper season with them or gets them over hurdles quickly. Given it's Cheveley with the success they've had going down this route, they may still aim him at the Champion Bumper though.

The only thing with him is that they tried to get him out at the end of last season which also makes me think he’ll go hurdling.

Henry likes them to get over obstacles pretty sharpish.

He teaches them to jump so well, it’s seems a waste of his ability, to be running them in more than one or two Bumpers max.

But chose not to Jackie, which felt like a change of plan and is what made me think they may have saved him for bumpers. Whilst it's not De Bromhead's usual MO, it is Cheveley's, and perhaps they thought of all three new recruits together and how best to avoid each other this season. The other two were sent to bumpers and weren't held back, and it all felt deliberate.

Given Cheveley are effectively out of the game and aren't buying any more horses for the jumps, Guily Billy being held back avoids clashes, and would give them one extra season in novice hurdles too.
