Fat Jockey Merchandise

I like the idea of a Cheltenham ‘guide’, similar to the Weatherbys trends book that used to be produced, this could even include comments, poll results etc from members so there’s a personalised element to it.
Costs would obviously need to be considered as would sales/distribution and it may be those issues make something like this impossible, but no harm someone/small sub committee taking on responsibility to do some research...

More than happy doing a bit of research on this myself Ista, just wanna make sure there'd be a bit of call for it before I start.

I think this could be monetised quite easily. Setting aside the chit chat there's gold in the streets of the FJF (Juvenile Hurdlers thread for example), and I can see the wider racing world appreciating lots of the work that's done. You could easily propose the idea, collect money from members in advance, then have a pot to go to war with in terms of making the book / cover all costs. Members who paid would then get a copy for free, and it could be purchased online by others outside this community at a price. All revenue collected could help run the forum, fund future versions etc.

I think that’s all part of the research that’s needed ryan, as an old git I used to wander round with the weatherbys book in my pocket as a reference guide but I know most people these days press buttons.
My guess is production set up/costs are significant so unless we have someone here who is in the printing industry and can work on mates rates we might struggle, but it’d be good to see the numbers and where the target audience might exist. it will need to go beyond the 100 or so regular contributors in here....

You could also pilot it digitally first by selling a PDF or digital reader copy, popping it on the kindle store before moving to full blown publishing

A t-shirt with Column Of Fire approaching the final hurdle....

How about " pay per view Section " on the Forum , a race by race guide - Overview , Likely Candidate's , selection's . from F.j's best Tipster's. :eagerness:

Fat Jockey mouse mat....
Fat Jockey phone cover.... :biggrin-new:

I certainly think there's enough seriously worthwhile content that could make a book / guide and have it up there with the rest of the market.

But I wonder whether a mobile app could work better? One of the downsides with many of the books is the gap between the printing / publication dates and the festival itself. The content may not depend on it of course but you could be talking a month plus. In which time a lot of the races, specifically the shape of the handicaps have changed so much. An app can be dynamic and constantly up to date. A physical book still has it's merits but to have it on the go and with you at all times is a positive imo.

You could question whether an app is too similar to the forum already I guess. Why an app when you can just go on the forum, but it would be condensed by race, and hundreds of pages filtered down into key content which could constantly evolve. Notifications could be sent as festival races happen, trials. Take for example Saxon Warrior incredible efforts in the Irish racing programme. You could get pinged notifications on your phone for these entries and information. Even the potential to highlights bets off the back of races.

Like the forum, there would be maintenance costs. Development etc but no outright printing / production costs. Yet the app could still be purchasable, either as a one off fee or subscription based.

"Are you a mug punter?"

Surely this has to go on a Mug! Plain white classy with the FT banner (per the website).

....or something similar like 'Fat Jockey mug punter' or 'Fat Jockey mug' or 'No mugs at Fat Jockey' or 'I'm a Fat Jockey mug' or similar, you get the idea.

Meet me in the Centaur - I'll have a copy of the RP under my hand and a tshirt that says "The Challow winner NEVER wins the Ballymore"

Haha, there would be a couple in there with t shirts that should read” My AP book is longer than the bible” after claiming every winner.

Haha, that's brilliant.

I'm surprised I've never come across something like that actually!

For horses like him/Annie P with Trump on waggling finger #didn’t happen/fall would be topical :excitement:

Count me in - i'll take 10 of any and every merchandising containing the words "HARD ON THE SNAFF"

Not a bad idea Jono and one that could be talked about in the upper echelons of the forum. I did some app development at uni so would not be against dipping my toe back into this.

It would be very niche & terrible idea, but when you see Betfair don a horse cloth with the exchange prices after a race highlighting the value etc.

I can just envisage some billy bog bollocks donning a shirt with “on at 33s” about something that is odds on, or screenshot of a huge exchange price on something that’s switched targets and now short. Obvs look a twat if beat but guaranteed to rile & draw attention, maybe even a cheeky itv interview.

With bookmakers following suit very quickly with 'account closed'....

Come back the next day with that bloke tapping his head(thinking emoji) “ it’s not in my name”

Sorry Ista, clearly letting my imagination run a bit, back to serious suggestions only.

I would be up for some merchandise. TWAR with BOOST :eagerness:
