I think Deyran De Carjac is over priced at 14/1. Won by 13 lengths on soft ground on chase debut in May. Has improved markedly since then and beat Hendersons Pym 1st time out this season giving him 5lb. Pym franked the form easily winning a competive Ascot novice handicap last time and is currently rated 149 with the promise of more to come.
Deyran had Pym beat 2 fences out and won very comfortably even though it was 3 1/2 lengths on the line.
Deyran De Carjac is currently only rated 143 but has already beaten a 149 rated chaser with ease giving 5lb so is probably a fair way better than his current mark, unbeaten 2/2 over fences and on an upward curve.
Alan King is 6/29 in graded chases since 2017 and wouldnt be sending him here today if he didnt think he had a chance. Its a tough race but the 14/1 is far too big. His form isnt far behind that of Champ and with the trip more in Deyran De Carjacs favour than Champs and with Deyran De Carjacs looking a much more natural jumper than Champ then he should be bang there at the finish.
8 of the last 10 winners were aged 6 or younger so the race can suit the young up and comer.
Black Op is a strong rival and Dashel Drasher may improve for his 1st run of the season behind Champ.
Even Nicholls outsider 28/1 Mont De Alvoirs could go well today and is a big strong horse who is likely to greatly improve this season over fences.
Champ has one hell of an engine but isnt a natural jumper. I think this is a very strong race and everything has a chance.
