Supreme Novices Hurdle 2020

Obviously connections keeping horses apart makes perfect sense but there seems to be this sweeping notion (more on SM than here) that the absence of Malone Road means Envoi Allen automatically slots into the supreme. It rubbish, not just because we're months away and for all we know they could both not make it, but people are assuming that Gordon will have no choice but to put EA him in a supreme if MR is out, which is nonsense. Gordon has said 2m5f is the plan and he will ultimately go for the race he thinks EA will most likely win, and the race that's in his best interest short and long term. To me that looks like the Ballymore so Malone Road or no Malone Road, that is where he is most likely to end up IMO. I saw this debate on twitter and the party line seemed to be 'but he has the pace for a supreme' - so what, he probably has the stamina for an Albert Bartlett, it doesn't mean that's the best race for him either.

Loads of sentences in there I agree with completely.

Especially the last.

It's too early to be slotting them in together now, and not really value in doing so after they've had a run. FOMO is the biggest driver for bets on Novice Hurdlers.

I think that instead to pushing the price on Malone Road hoping to take more money for it they would be better suspending betting on it till someone opens there mouth and tells the world whats cooking with MR. Its coming across as greed now.

That should be no surprise somer (bookies coming across as greedy)
Information is power.
It's just there's loads of it these days, and we have to work out what's the more important bits.

There genuinly must be better ways to focus the minds than what a horse who has never run over hurdles is or isn't doing and hw bookmakers are reacting. :highly_amused:

The worst named horse in training Abacadbras (so close to being well named) has a short cadance* apparently *(not confirmed) so I heard on a podcast he might not see out 2 miles very well in a Supreme.

Not how I saw the race personally... but I wouldn't know much about actions!

The Envoi Allen Supreme question is similar to Samcro a couple of years ago.

Now part of that might have been because he was 7/1 NRNB with bet365 but he had the ability to win both the Supreme and the Ballymore. Elliot went with the sensible option at the distance the horse was better at. I think he will do the same with EA and stag at 2.5 despite both being up for grabs.

Spot on. Totally Agee.

Unfortunately already a horse called Abra....

Abacadabra certainly stayed on ok up the hill in the Bumper so I see no reason why the Supreme should be an issue.

Not sure it means that Lobos.
It's about rhythm and stride patterns etc. The horse's gait etc.
Although it's not an exact science, some horses cadence suggest longer trips will suit. The slightly slower pace can help some maintain a better rhythm.
Something like that anyhow. someone might correct me.

Isn't Rhythm a rubbish word. No vowels or anything.

He was good no doubt but I want a horse making a length or two over his hurdles but suppose once he’s over the engine kicks in being picky just me just adamant he’s a staying chaser in the making and bought for that! 2 mile champion hurdler not the words spoken about him in the past

It's interesting.
He looked to be extremely quick at one or two in the last half of the race, where I though he did exactly that. However, the camera angle may have exagerated this.
I agree about the sudden focus on speed, as he looked a stayer all over last season in his bumper runs.
We'll see how he fares in the graded race next time out.

Far too clever for me. But thanks for explaining!

Fly Smart
He’s a very smart horse. He’s not doing much this morning. His French form is impressive, a lot of the horses that finished behind him have won since. I think that he’s one that might be an interesting novice hurdler. He’s just a bit behind the others, he might not appear out until Christmas or the new year.

Where’s this from Thistlecrack?

Couldn't ask for much more, he always holds back and runs the best 2 mile novices late.
Hes not like melon in the fact that fly smart already has prior hurdles experience.

He'll have to do his talking on the track now.
