RSA Chase 2020

I did think thought that because they can crawl around in the 4 miler he may actually be better suited to a stamina sapping, fast paced 3 miles of the RSA...

but again, don't trust the jockey to get that right and it'd make all the difference.

I think there aren't enough horses out running yet so I'm over thinking what I've seen :highly_amused:

IF the bookies over react to Beakstown I'll be interested, he was a fair punt regardless.

Reading between the lines of HdB’s ATR stable tour re: Minella Indo. He may not be fit/tuned up enough to do himself justice until Dec/Jan time. That was certainly the case with him over hurdles. I’ll be holding fire on getting him onside in the hope that he underwhelms slightly in his first run or two & hopefully drifts out to more attractive price.

Paddy Power cut Sam Spinner to 16-1 from 25-1 for the RSA Chase at next year’s Cheltenham Festival – and Colliver is looking forward to seeing him step up in trip.

“We went a good gallop, but that suited him as we know he wants three miles really,” said the jockey.

“He got in tight to a few fences, but it did him the world of good and it will help him learn his job.
“It looks like he’s going to make it as a chaser and with a bit of luck he might be even better than he was over hurdles.
“Thanks to Jedd and the owners for keeping faith in me and to Sam Spinner, as you can’t do it without the horse.”

Joe Colliver predictably thinks 3 miles :p

Yep, No surprises there.
Can't see a yard like theirs going anywhere other than the RSA to be fair.
I'd be very surprised if he proves competitive enough on a consistent basis to be a contender, bit like that other chaser lil rockerfeller - but a bit better.
Probably end up in stayers hurdle again.

Those fences were as stiff as ever today at Wetherby , all made errors one way or another obvs Beakstown disappointing to a degree but i'd be in no rush to back SS with a view to grade 1s over fences either personally.

Do the cheekpieces worry you?

Not more than the jockey does... :highly_amused:

They don't as much as they would if he hadn't worn them to place in the Stayers Hurdle... I don't mind headgear when its proven to work... it's not ideal.

You're probably right.... ultimately he's likely to fall short in the business end of a G1 chase... but 44/1 is fair I'd say each way, for anyone building a book... which plenty like to here, me included.

Guessing, but he's got to be easily one of the highest rated staying novice hurdlers going chasing this time around, and that's usually a pretty fruitful guide? (Needs fact checking)

Which handicap will Beakstown end up in?? Kim Muir?

That'd be least likely if jockey has his way.
And they'd need to stop running it against 164 rated hurdlers too, if they're after a decent mark.
I'd say the Brown advisory appears to be a favourite for one of Skelton's that' don't make the grade.

Fancy spiritof thegames for the Paddy Power in November actually.

Wholestone runs next week 3m novice chase at cheltenham, i dont need to mention his Chelt record as i'm you're all aware,161 rated hurdler in prime, 40-1 with hills, 8yo though, might be nice to have in the book after Friday.perhaps?

Will be 9yr old come Cheltenham, missed the boat imo. Plenty of fresh legs coming through. Il give up betting if wholestone wins an rsa

As a trading angle perhaps.

My gut tells me it'll be a decent Novice Chase year this year though, so I would expect him to fall short of Grade 1 class, as he did over hurdles... he's a grade 2 horse for me.

Probably fairly common knowledge, but Tizzard in his stable tour with Racing TV that was published on Wednesday, has all but counted the RSA out for Reserve Tank by the sounds of it.

“I’d imagine he would get two entries at Cheltenham (Arkle and JLT), but that is a long way off and we will suss out where we are going first.”

Battleoverdoyen declared for the beginners chase on Sunday - Keith jocked up and Davy on Galvin.

Still 33s with most bookes for the RSA, although BFSB/PP went 20s a few days ago.

Over 2m6 as well has to be a positive for RSA backers. And obvs the cut from PP. Cheers

Battle won't be running this weekend but he has a top profile for RSA. Backed him at 33's and will top up. Got a good feeling about him.

How do you know he won’t be running?
