I see that we had actually picked the captains by 18th Feb lat year, so we're actually a bit behind!

A thread has been set up for each yankee with discussion/debate encouraged by all members (more the merrier), the 'captains' job will be to make final four selections from the suggestions made by members, it will be the owners decision whether their yankee will be win or each way.

Discussion will increase when weights are out and final selections are to be done on Sunday 10th March to enable those traveling the chance to get on before setting off.

There will be a 5th Yankee, and overall FJ yankee, that I'll probably do a vote with nearer the time.... but to be confirmed

Good man Kev. These are always good fun.

Yeah, how shall we pick the captains this year?

We had newbies last year didn't we? (new members within the last 12 months?)
Throw it out for volunteers?
Vote?
Just pick people?:devilish:

I’ll volunteer Day one or Day two, but I’ve got no chance on the others :triumphant:

Last years captains were Robith, KingSprinterSacre, Middle_of_March, Viking Flagship

I've updated the opening post.

Yep, well done Kev.
We have always had a Sunday evening deadline for all 4 days which helps those who go, would be useful for this to stand

Yes, agreed.

I paraphrased your rules from last year so should be consistant...

What do you think we should do for captains? One volunteer already...

When I chose captains 2/3 years ago I wrote all volunteers names down and drew lots.
Polls, I think, could be dangerous....

Too much danger for a Monday night.

I'll set up a volunteer thread.

Cpfcpatriot....you are to listen to the debate posted within the confindes of the forum, and ultimately have the final pick on four horses for Tuesday of the festival.

Win or each way is your decision, based on the cases and suggestions put forward by the rest of us.

Let the Le Richebourg vs Cilaos Emery war commence!

(Thread locked after 12,000 pages of heated debate)

I will take suggestions on the horses but to start the debate I’d prefer to avoid the Champion with 3 horses close in the market.

If we was to head down the win only angle, I’d be wanting to base the bet around Benie Des Dieux as there’s nothing that will get close to her.

But, I’m open-minded.

If we go each way, Coo Star Sivola @ 20/1 in the Ultima looks rock solid. Loads on here already on. Festival form is superb. Reigning champion in a race that throws up repeat winners. Not ground dependant. Can front run or sit in behind. Very little not to like about CSS and there is no way he goes off 20/1.

No war to be had on LR v CE at 10/3 vs 5/1. No brainer. Market leader is dependent on genuinely good ground which Simon Claisse won't give him. I have other concerns, but that would be enough for me to put a line through LR at that price straight away

If we are going EW:
Supreme - Grand Sancy (Al Dancer grabbed the headlines at the weekend, but a but more under-the-radar and a much bigger price!)
Arkle - Hardline (may have been mentioned at some stage... :highly_amused:
Ultima - Coo Star Sivola (Cases made elsewhere - great festival record, reigning champ, great EW price)
Close Bros - Lough Derg Spirit (Think that many are fans on here...)

Sod it... I might put this one on myself!

I’m sure I typed a long message out the other day when I was in the chip shop but it appears it didn’t send!

I’ve been holding on for the weights announcement but this is my current feelings:

I feel an each way Yankee will suit day 1 better than a

Supreme: A potential for each-way thievery. Elixir de Nutz is the prime candidate but there are many others to look at for either win or each way.

Arkle: I’m not too keen for this race to be involved at the moment as I’m not sure there’s prime value involved on the each way side unless the race continues to break down.

Ultima: I’m a huge fan of this race, and would be keen on it being involved for each way purposes.

Champion: it’ll take a great deal of persuasion to get me away from any of the first 4 in the market (including Sharjah with the obvious 3) but a discussion can be made.

Mares: I can’t see past the favourite personally, but it’s her first run of the year, so again there is a discussion to be had here.

NH Chase: I would be a fan of including this race as well. Though a lot of this would be based on jockeys.

Novices Handicap: A race I’ve had a good record in, so I’d like to include it.

So, as of now:

Each-Way yankee:
Ultima,
NH Chase,
Novices Handicap
Mares or Supreme unless a very good argument can be made for Arkle or CH.

The handicaps, I’d like to see the weights and likely level of the horses to be getting in or not before we go too in-depth.

I’ll start with the NH Chase and throw my weight behind Champagne Classic.

He has course form, he likes good ground and will likely be carrying Jamie Codd who took Cause of Causes to victory.

The NH Chase is now throwing up a higher quality of entry, but I don’t think CC would be out of place in the RSA.

Another potential option is Discorama, but he would be a 2nd choice right now.

More options this year on Tuesday, in the past where Mullins regularly had 3/4 hotpots this was a brutal day to pick the yankee, much easier this year so no pressure cpfc...

Ballyward - NH Chase
Campeador - Novice Handicap
Stormy Ireland - Mares

Currently have a huge list for the Ultima, backed a few too, can't find one in particular that stands out.
