    Racing post website

Go to galileos page and click on the progeny entries tab

There's also a RP Progeny app which will send you notifications of declarations by sire.

Thanks! The Galileo bit was just an example, more looking for ways to get personalised reports for daily runners on the cheap

HesTheOne carrying on our convo in here where it's better placed.

Luca Viscogliosi - does really interesting interviews with up and coming jockeys and some trainers too. Has started a series about Apprentices which is worth a watch. I like his interview style, clearly well prepared and doesn't let the interview wonder but isn't forceful in the way he moves the interview on. I find he gets good answers from folk he's interviewing, doesn't pander. Christian Williams basically told us his entire season planning in early Autumn!

Not long until someone is requesting odds for the 2029 mares novice hurdle.

Paddy probably allow you 2 quid at 7/2.
Might nick a bit of 4/1 with Sky….

I've never even heard of them, sorry. Was it you who mentioned Virgin bet just before the festival? I joined on the 11th and found the site easy to navigate, received the free bets, and used them for the first race money back as a free bet promotion plus a few other small losing bets.I carried on having a fiver and a tenner here and there, and was 24quid up when the restriction email came on the 27th. It really does look like the end is nigh, when it only takes 16 days to get screwed by a Virgin

Not me no, I survived a few months with them before the same fate.
I used to enjoy the weekly ladder quiz thing….

Wasn't there long enough to notice that.

                        • I've just been back on the Virgin site to see what I have and don't have to decide whether to close, and still have BOG for now at least. Also saw that they still have Constitution Hill at 11/4 for the Arkle, which I manged to get 4pts on!!!,so I might stick with them.
It is surely odds on after today's news from Nicky that the Arkle will be his target.

                          • Writing as someone who know little of the breeding and pedigree side of things but who is keen to learn more largely to better understand a progeny’s optimal distance and most likely potential target, what materials would people suggest I read? Is it a case of just studying form on the Racing Post website or are the some better materials available?

I use the Racing Post mostly and look into the form of a sires most successful progeny. I remember Odin posting some useful info on here a while back but I can't remember where it was. He seems a decent sort and I'm sure he wouldn't mind sharing it with you if you drop him a message

Thanks Fouroverthrutwo, I'd be happy to share my thoughts by messages CNC but the models are providing some strange results so I'm not sure they are as helpful as I hoped they would be at the moment. I could talk about this more by messages if you wanted rather than clogging up the general chat.

I find the racing post pedigree site is reasonably useful. For example the discussion I had recently regarding Allegorie de vassy. If you look at her sires best progeny in the stud record part of the sires link, you have allaho, epatante, esprit du large and gumball - all 2-2.5 milers except allaho (2.75 miler as I called him). On the damsire side, click "damsire" on the stud record tab, you have run for Oscar and pobbles bay. Both suggest a bit of stamina although it's unclear how much run for Oscar has as he was aimed at coral cup after going for the fixed brush at haydock (was this due to shoot first being a "cert"?)

Taken together I'd argue the best distance for ADV based on those elements is as a 2.5 miler. It's not an exact science and it's not necessarily the best way of doing things but that's what I do when I'm looking at things using racing post

The key problem with all of it - and something I'm trying to resolve with my modelling (unsuccessfully so far) - is that it doesn't account for what performance you'd expect the horse to have given the conditions. For example, if you're a 5yo, you're likely to perform worse than a 7yo if you consider natural progression so if you're a 2 miler at 5yo but a 3 miler at 7yo and don't do the other distance at that age, are you a better horse at 3 miles, or a better horse because you are older. It's annoyingly difficult to decipher and then that can influence where you think a stamina influence comes from blah blah, I'll stop rambling on now...
