    • Please can we dispel the myth i have seen floating around that this year is a more average bunch and there are no standouts

Lets compare vs last season at same time (ie. performances to Jan 1st) in 3 races using best RPRs…

      Supreme

      Jonbon - 149

      Const Hill - 148

      Potter - 143

      Dysart - 137

      vs

      Facile - 152

      Marine - 147

      Impaire 143

      Il Etait - 143

      Ballymore

      3 Stripes - 142

      Sir Ger = 135

      vs

      Gaelic - 150

      Dawn - 145

Hermes - 143 (assume more yest)

      Irish - 142

      Ch Kiely - 142

      Spuds

      Bardenstown - 142

      Cocooner - 133

      Nice Guy - 117

      vs

      Favori - 152

      Dawn Rising - 145

      Hidden - 144

      3 card - 136

      Monbeg - 135

      Sandor - 127

      Raven - 127 (1 run + 130 NHF horse)

So, looks like all 3 divisions are much stronger, both in the best run and depth. And if you think about all money now going in to the game and improved training methods, etc, then it makes sense that standards are improving

There are also a few that seem to be under the radar and look to me like value....

Favori (Spuds) 16-1 ….perfect horse for race as second-season novice + def stays 3m with lots experience and high connections

Dark Raven (Spuds) 25/1…..only race he has early entry for + very highly rated Mullins

Dawn Rising (Bally 20-1, Spuds 25-1…..not sure race, may depend on Inthepocket and other McManus? a 107 flat rated horse

      • Can't believe they gave favori de champdou a 152 rpr for that run

        Seems awfully high

Both American mike and Hiddenvalley lake despatched letsbeclearaboutit with more authority

        not buying that figure myself

Been a few headscratching RPRs recently

Some proper inflated RPR's amongst a fair few novices in recent times it seems. Hard to weigh up facile winners but some are hard to justify.

Agreed, I’ve backed Hiddenvalley Lake NRNB today with that in consideration.

The higher RPRs this year are a joke. They went too low last year with some of the ratings and have gone far too high this year with others. No way was FVs a 152 and FDC was not a 152 performance either.

There are no entries yet for Cheltenham. If you are basing it on the Racing Post, they just guess a race or races that horses will be entered for.

                  • Ruby did a great piece earlier in the season on the inflation of ratings, it was mostly based on Champ Kielys and comparing his runs to notable legends of the past (he liked him but didn’t think he was as good as others and/or ratings made him out to be)

It was very interesting but can’t recall when the clip was released but was part of a paddy p talk.

In summary - high ratings seam to be thrown out willy nilly compared to years gone by and need to be taken with a huge pinch of salt.

                    • Hansard winning at Plumpton.
Gives a decent form stamp to Rare edition, and not so good for Attaca with Master Chewy beaten getting weight.

                      • Arctic Bresil entered in Tolworth.
That will be interesting if he runs.
                        Especially given the breeding

Going to be some race that and may well shake up the Supreme market. Worth looking at some NRNB prices on a few of the horses.

That’s a great bit of placing. Would love to see it.

Love that, love Arctic Bresil. Would be great to see him line up.

Would be great although I’d have the Moscow Flyer as slight favourite still.
