Death Duty answer
His new mark is 144
Assessed including Sundays race
(as were Snow Leopardess and Coko Beach).
This can be used by Gordon now, who may wish to enter him in the Kim Muir and the Ultima, at next weeks Cheltenham Handicaps initial entry.
Personally I'm going NRNB with these.
"For all early closing handicaps over jumps (which includes the Grand National and all the Cheltenham handicaps) we DO take account of any performances on the Sunday immediately prior to the weights being published, and that includes runs in either GB or Ireland. So in this example, yes, the marks allotted for the National for the two horses you mention do take account of the form they showed at Punchestown on Sunday."
This differs from normal everyday Handicaps where GB and Ireland marks do not get updated until a week later.
(for example Escaria Ten being entered at Musselburgh, last season)
The crucial difference is that in these big early entry handicaps, to protect the integrity of those big-money races then they rate the Sundays races where they're run two days before the Big Race Handicap weights being announced.Last edited by Saxon Warrior; 16 February 2022, 11:50 AM."Journeys to Glory, breathing in his head".

The GB mark of 144 was confirmed by the BHA to me last night, and this morning (two separate officials, the same answer).
Not sure where the Racing Post pull their rating info from
(though I do know from experience that they arent always accurate).
The BHA ratings comes into force next Tuesday for Coko Beach, Death Duty and Snow Leopardess, but they assessed and issued the new GB ratings early specifically for the Grand National as it is one of the big early closing, early weights handicaps they do this for.
If those three horses had entries for this week (up until Monday inclusive) they would be running off their old GB marks in normal everyday handicaps, whatever they are.
None of the three horses mentioned do have GB entries for the next few days though.
There is no rating on the BHA site at present.
Death Duty (IRE) - Horse Profile - The British Horseracing Authority
But there is one on the HRI website today of 145

It gets confusing around the National weights / ratings though as the capper can frame that race how he wishes. He’s given Death Duty 144 for the nash but may assess as higher in context of this race. He’s bound to be one that causes a stir due to this. I’m fairly sure he’ll get taxed a few lbs & end up on 147 or something & thus exempt from this. Just wish the National didn’t have its own ‘rule’ but it’s what they did to try & attract the best chasers on reasonable marks as a one off etc

….into 20-1 with 365 as we speak and as low as 16-1 PP is encouraging. Not read anything about a confirmed target, although somebody posted some months ago that this was the aim.Last edited by Eggs; 16 February 2022, 03:09 PM.
